Google has officially announced that Google Sheets now fully supports the import of 3D bar charts. It’s one of those quality-of-life updates that might not sound like headline news to everyone, but for anyone who bridges the gap between different spreadsheet software, it’s a significant win for workflow efficiency.

Previously, when you brought a file containing a 3D bar chart into Sheets, the system essentially did a “downgrade,” rendering your visual data as a standard 2D chart. While it kept the data points intact, the visual design—and the effort you put into it—was stripped away. Now, those charts will carry over with their 3D aesthetics preserved, making the transition between platforms much more seamless.

This update is particularly helpful for teams that rely on a mix of tools. Whether you’re collaborating with partners who prefer the traditional Excel environment or you’re simply migrating legacy reports, the goal here is clearly to reduce the friction of digital collaboration. You won’t have to spend those extra minutes (or sometimes hours, depending on the number of slides) re-styling your charts to match the look you originally intended.

For those eager to see it in action, the feature is already rolling out. If you’re on a “Rapid Release” domain, you should be able to see the change immediately. For everyone else on a “Scheduled Release” track, Google says the update will begin a gradual rollout starting July 13, 2026, and should reach everyone within about 15 days.
