After nearly a decade, Google is finally giving its popular Nest Learning Thermostat a much-needed makeover. The tech giant dropped the news a week ahead of its big product launch event, generating significant buzz around the anticipated smart home device.

The new thermostat boasts a sleek, modern design with a larger, more vibrant display. Google claims it’s the company’s “smartest and most beautiful thermostat yet.” The device now features a curved, bezel-free screen that’s inspired by the shape of water, and it’s slimmer than its predecessor. Plus, you can customize the home screen to display your preferred information, whether it’s the time, temperature, weather, or air quality.

But looks aren’t everything. The new Nest Learning Thermostat is also packed with advanced features designed to optimize energy efficiency and comfort. A cutting-edge AI system, dubbed “Smart Schedule,” quickly learns your daily routines and temperature preferences, automatically adjusting the thermostat accordingly. You can also manually approve or reject suggested changes.

Another standout feature is “Smart Ventilation,” which automatically circulates fresh air when outdoor conditions are favorable and pauses when air quality deteriorates. This can help improve indoor air quality and reduce energy consumption.

The thermostat is also equipped with a system health monitor that can detect potential HVAC issues and alert you to any problems. And to help you keep tabs on temperatures in different rooms, Google is including a free Nest Temperature Sensor (2nd gen) with every purchase (worth $39.99).

If you’re eager to get your hands on the new Nest Learning Thermostat, you’re in luck. Preorders are now open at Amazon, Best Buy, and the Google Store. The device will be officially released on August 20th and retails for $279.99.
