Google has been busy enhancing its Lens feature, and the latest updates are sure to excite users, especially those who love exploring the world around them. If you’re an Android or iPhone user, you can now access these features directly through the Google app, making it easier than ever to get information about the things you encounter in your daily life.

Video search

One of the most exciting additions is the ability to ask questions about videos. Imagine you’re wandering through an aquarium, fascinated by a vibrant school of fish. With the updated Google Lens, you can capture a short video of one of these aquatic creatures and get instant information about it. All you have to do is hold down the shutter button while you record and verbally ask your question. Google’s AI interprets both the video and your inquiry, providing you with a comprehensive overview, along with additional web links for more in-depth learning. This feature truly takes your curiosity to the next level, allowing you to engage with your environment in a more interactive way.

Voice input for still images

Google has also rolled out support for voice-based questions when you’re snapping a picture. Instead of typing out your query, you can now point your camera at an object, hold the shutter button, and simply ask your question aloud. This hands-free approach makes it incredibly convenient, whether you’re identifying a flower in your garden or trying to learn more about a painting in a gallery.

Shop what you see

For those who use Google Lens to enhance their shopping experience, you’re in for a treat. The search results for visually similar images will now be “dramatically more helpful.” When you’re on the hunt for a specific product, Google Lens will provide you with information about what you want to buy, including price comparisons across various retailers. No more guesswork; you can make informed purchasing decisions in seconds.

AI-driven search results

In addition to the Lens updates, Google is also refining how search results are organized, especially when it comes to food. If you’re looking for recipes or meal inspiration, the AI-driven results will take precedence on mobile devices. This means you’ll see results neatly categorized by different recipe options, ingredients, and more, making it easier to find exactly what you’re craving.

A new design for AI Overviews

To top it all off, Google is introducing a new design for AI Overviews. This updated layout will showcase prominent links to supporting web pages right within the text of the overview. Google claims this will better drive traffic to those sites, which is a win-win for both users looking for more information and website owners hoping to reach a wider audience. Furthermore, ads will now be integrated into these AI Overviews. Surprisingly, Google has found that users often find these ads helpful, as they can quickly connect with relevant businesses and services.

Rollout details

These exciting features for Google Lens are rolling out to Android and iOS devices starting October 3rd, along with the new search organization changes. So if you haven’t already, make sure to update your Google app and explore the enhanced capabilities for yourself!
