Google is extending its much-talked-about Deep Research tool for the Gemini app to mobile devices. Previously a web-only feature, Deep Research is now available to Gemini Advanced users on both Android and iOS, promising to transform the way on-the-go users generate detailed reports.
Imagine needing to whip up a comprehensive report in just a few minutes while commuting or waiting in line at your local café. That’s exactly what Google aims to deliver with this update. The Deep Research tool allows users to input a query and, with a few taps, receive a preliminary report outline that can be refined or expanded with a single click.
To get started, users simply select the “1.5 Pro with Deep Research” option from the app’s drop-down menu, enter their query, and let Gemini do the rest. According to Google’s official announcement, the tool typically crafts a report within 5-10 minutes for straightforward topics. For more complex research projects, however, the timeline might extend slightly—a nod to the intricacies involved in digging through layers of information online.

One of the standout features is its convenience. If you need to step away from your chat, you won’t miss a beat; the app will notify you once your report is ready. This seamless integration of research and user notification marks a significant upgrade in mobile productivity.
Google isn’t the only tech giant investing heavily in AI-powered research tools. OpenAI has also entered the fray with its own Deep Research feature, built on the OpenAI o3 model. OpenAI’s version promises a detailed report within roughly 30 minutes—a timeline that, while longer than Gemini’s claim, might be better suited for more complex and nuanced queries. This head-to-head competition highlights a broader trend: the race to harness AI for efficient, reliable research is heating up, and users stand to benefit from these rapid advancements.
