Google is expanding its Gemini-powered “Help me create” feature in Google Forms to generate complete quizzes, giving teachers, trainers, and workplace teams a faster way to turn source material into assessable questions. The update is rolling out now, and it can use referenced Google Drive files – including Docs, Slides, and PDFs – as the basis for a quiz.
For anyone who has ever stared at a blank Google Form while trying to write 20 reasonable questions before a class, onboarding session, or compliance deadline, this is the kind of small AI upgrade that could make a real difference. Creating a quiz is rarely difficult in the technical sense. The tedious part is translating a body of material into questions that are clear, relevant, varied, and properly configured with answers.
That is the gap Google is trying to close.
With the updated Help me create feature, a user can describe the quiz they want in a prompt, optionally point Gemini to supporting files in Drive, and let the AI produce a draft. Google says Gemini will generate the questions along with the correct answers and suitable quiz settings, rather than merely dropping a loose list of questions into a form.

In practice, that could mean asking for a ten-question knowledge check based on a company’s new security-policy PDF, a short revision quiz from a lesson presentation, or an employee onboarding assessment drawn from a product-training document. Instead of manually reading the material, deciding which details are worth testing, and building each question one by one, users get a workable starting point directly inside Forms.
That “starting point” framing matters. Google is not positioning the tool as a hands-off quiz publishing machine, and it should not be treated as one. Gemini can generate a draft, but the person creating the quiz remains responsible for checking whether the questions are accurate, whether the answers are genuinely unambiguous, and whether the difficulty level matches the audience. Google explicitly allows users to preview the generated quiz and edit it after it has been inserted into a form.
The feature supports several common Forms question formats, including multiple-choice questions, checkboxes, and grid-based question types. That gives users more flexibility than a simple AI question generator that produces only one-answer multiple-choice prompts. A trainer, for example, could combine straightforward recall questions with checkbox questions that ask learners to identify several correct safety steps. A teacher could use grids to test matching or classification, assuming the structure makes educational sense for the topic.
A useful shift for Google Forms
Google Forms has long been one of the most accessible tools for making surveys, registrations, simple assessments, and classroom quizzes. Its appeal has never been sophistication so much as familiarity: it is quick, shareable, collaborative, and already woven into the broader Google ecosystem.
The problem is that Forms has historically made users do most of the intellectual setup themselves. Even when the platform handles grading for certain question types, somebody still has to write the questions, choose the formats, set the answer key, and decide what is worth measuring. Gemini’s quiz-generation feature shifts some of that early production work to AI.
This follows Google’s earlier launch of Help me create for producing forms from natural-language prompts. The new capability is more significant because quizzes have a higher bar than general-purpose forms. A survey can be open-ended and exploratory. A quiz needs internal logic. It must distinguish a correct response from an incorrect one, avoid misleading wording, and test something meaningful rather than simply rephrase a document at random.
That makes source grounding especially useful. When users attach or reference a Drive file, they can steer Gemini toward the actual material that a learner, employee, or participant is expected to know. It is a more practical approach than asking an AI tool to generate questions based solely on a topic such as “data privacy” or “World War II,” where the output might not align with a particular lesson plan, policy, or presentation.
Where it could work best
The obvious audience is education. Teachers and instructors often spend hours building formative quizzes, exit tickets, revision assessments, and unit tests. A feature that can transform a slide deck or lesson document into a first-pass quiz could free up time for the parts of teaching AI cannot do particularly well: understanding students’ needs, explaining difficult concepts, and deciding what good learning looks like.
But the workplace use cases may be just as compelling.
Internal training teams regularly create short quizzes for compliance, product knowledge, cybersecurity awareness, HR policies, and new-hire onboarding. Much of that content already lives in PDFs, training decks, shared documents, and internal knowledge bases. Google Forms can now sit closer to the end of that workflow: take the material, generate a quiz draft, review it, then distribute it.
For smaller businesses, nonprofits, community groups, and independent educators, the appeal is even simpler. Not everyone has a dedicated learning-management system or an instructional designer. A capable quiz maker built into an everyday productivity tool can make lightweight assessment more realistic for people who otherwise would not have the time to create it.
There is also a useful content angle here. Marketers, publishers, and community managers frequently use quizzes as engagement tools, although the quality of those quizzes varies wildly. AI can lower the barrier to producing them, but it can also flood the web with generic question sets. The advantage will go to teams that use Gemini to speed up production without giving up editorial judgment.
The human review still matters
AI-generated quizzes have an obvious weakness: they can sound convincing even when they are wrong, vague, overly simplistic, or poorly designed. That is not unique to Google Forms. It is a broader limitation of generative AI, especially when the output is used to evaluate someone else’s knowledge.
A question can be factually correct and still be a bad question. It may rely on a technicality, have more than one plausible answer, give away the answer through wording, or test memorization when the goal should be application and understanding. An AI tool does not automatically know the learning objective behind a training session or the context in which a policy will be applied.
That is why the best use of this feature is likely to be collaborative rather than automatic. Let Gemini handle the blank-page problem. Then let a subject expert, teacher, editor, or trainer tighten the language, remove weak questions, add missing context, and test whether the answer key holds up.
For organizations, there is a second consideration: source material. Referencing internal documents can be extremely useful, but teams should still think carefully about which files they allow users to use with AI features and what their organization’s Google Workspace settings permit. Google notes that access to Gemini in Workspace apps requires smart features and personalization to be enabled, with administrators able to manage the default personalization setting for users.
Availability and rollout
Google began the gradual rollout for Rapid Release domains on July 24, 2026, with availability expected to take up to 15 days. Scheduled Release domains began receiving the update on August 5, also through a gradual rollout.
The feature is available to Google Workspace Business Standard and Plus customers; Enterprise Standard and Plus customers; Education Plus users; and select consumer and education AI plans, including Google AI Pro, Google AI Ultra, Google AI Pro for Education, and the Teaching and Learning add-on.
That plan-based availability means the feature will not immediately appear for every person who can open Google Forms. But for eligible users, it is a meaningful step toward making Forms feel less like a blank canvas and more like an AI-assisted workspace.
Google’s new quiz generator will not replace careful assessment design. It will not guarantee factual precision, fair grading, or thoughtful teaching. What it can do is remove some of the repetitive setup work that often keeps good quizzes from being made at all. For the people who live in Google Workspace every day, that may be exactly the right level of AI assistance: not a replacement for judgment, but a faster route to the first draft.
