Google is making it a little easier for teams that live in both Google Chat and Atlassian Confluence to stay in one place. The company has introduced a new Confluence integration for Google Chat, bringing Confluence pages, notifications, and collaboration features directly into Chat.

The integration was announced on September 22 as part of Google Workspace‘s growing push to connect third-party work tools with its collaboration apps. It is delivered through Atlassian’s Google Workspace add-on, which already connects Jira and Confluence with services including Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Google Chat.

Confluence comes directly to Google Chat

The main idea behind the new integration is pretty straightforward: teams shouldn’t have to keep jumping between Chat and Confluence every time a project conversation turns into a documentation task.

With the Confluence app installed in Google Chat, users can share Confluence pages and get richer previews directly inside conversations. Google says those previews can show the page title, summary, and author, giving teammates more context without requiring them to open the page immediately.

The integration also brings Confluence notifications into Chat. Users can receive real-time notifications for things such as @mentions, comment replies, and changes to Confluence pages they own. Teams can also receive automated updates when changes are made to Confluence pages shared with a Chat space.

That makes the integration more than just a way to paste Confluence links into a conversation. It is designed to keep Google Chat as the place where teams coordinate while Confluence remains the underlying source of documentation and project knowledge.

Atlassian’s Marketplace listing also says users can view, edit, and comment on Confluence content from within Google Workspace, while specifically highlighting Confluence updates and collaboration through Google Chat.

There are Chat commands, too

The Confluence integration comes with several slash commands for managing the connection directly from Google Chat.

Users can type /confluence_help for help, /confluence_connect to connect their Confluence site, and /confluence_disconnect to disconnect it. There are also commands for managing personal and space notifications and sending feedback to Confluence and Google.

Confluence also supports interactive link previews in Chat when users share links from an Atlassian Confluence Cloud workspace, using URLs in the *.atlassian.net/wiki/ format.

That could be particularly useful for project spaces where documentation is constantly being referenced. Instead of dropping a bare Confluence URL into a conversation and leaving everyone to figure out what it contains, the link can surface useful context right inside Chat.

It is available now

Google says the new Confluence integration is available now on both Rapid Release and Scheduled Release domains. It is available to all Google Workspace customers, Workspace Individual subscribers, and users with personal Google accounts. A Confluence Cloud account is required to use the integration.

Admins can install the Atlassian add-on on behalf of users, while individual users can find the Confluence add-on through Google Chat by going to Apps and selecting Find apps. Google also directs users to the Google Workspace Marketplace listing to install the Atlassian integration.

The broader Atlassian add-on is free of charge and currently supports Google Chat, Gmail, Docs, Sheets, and Slides. The Marketplace listing shows that it was updated on September 11, 2026.

For companies already using Confluence as their knowledge base and Google Chat for day-to-day communication, the integration essentially connects the two sides of that workflow. Conversations can stay in Chat while Confluence continues to act as the place where the underlying documentation lives.
