Ford has recently issued a warning to certain EV owners about a potential problem with Tesla Supercharger adapters they received earlier this year. These adapters were provided to Ford EV drivers as part of a partnership with Tesla, allowing access to Tesla’s extensive charging network. However, a specific batch of these North American Charging Standard (NACS) adapters could lead to issues like reduced charging speeds or even damage to the vehicle’s charging port.
Ford is advising affected drivers, particularly those with F-150 Lightning and Mustang Mach-E models, to stop using the adapter immediately until a replacement arrives. The company is working on shipping new adapters starting the week of October 28, 2024. In the meantime, Ford is offering free replacements and handling the returns of faulty adapters at no cost to the customer.
Owners should check the notice from Ford to ensure their shipping address is correct by October 24. If their address is up-to-date, no further action is needed, but if there are discrepancies, they’ll need to update their information. While waiting for the new adapter, Ford recommends using alternative public charging networks.
For now, Ford is taking proactive measures to avoid potential damage, but neither Rivian nor General Motors have reported similar issues with their own Tesla Supercharger adapters.
