Dyson kept several elements under wraps when it launched its Zone noise-canceling and air-purifying headphones earlier this year. Dyson, in particular, did not mention pricing or availability, nor did it say much about battery life. Now, Dyson revealed this information on Wednesday. When it launches in the United States next March (January in China and March in the US, UK, Hong Kong SAR and Singapore), the wearable will cost an eye-watering $949, making it nearly twice as pricey as the AirPods Max.

Dyson will first take pre-orders only via appointment until the headphones are made available through its website at Demo stores across the country. The wearable will be available in two colors in the United States: Ultra Blue/Prussian Blue and Prussian Blue/Bright Copper. The latter will only be available via the company, although it includes a few extras such as a second electrostatic carbon filter, a soft pouch, and an inflight adaptor kit.

The Zone’s signature vizor, as well as a specific sleeve and cleaning brush, are included with both the regular and Dyson Direct models. Dyson claims that the electrostatic filters can be used for up to 12 months before needing to be replaced.

The filters have a dual-layer design with potassium-enriched carbon that captures acidic gases such as nitrogen dioxide, sulfur dioxide, and ozone. Overall, the company says that the filters would filter out 99 percent of particles, including those as fine as 0.1 millimeters.

On the audio front, the Zone headphones have a noise cancellation rating of up to 38 decibels and 40-millimeter neodymium drivers. The MyDyson companion app allows you to choose between three audio equalizer modes: Dyson EQ, Bass Boost, and Neutral. The headphones will initially support SBC, AAC, and LHDC audio codecs, as well as Bluetooth 5.0.

The battery life is determined by how frequently you utilize the Zone’s air filtration feature. The Zone’s 2,600mAh battery may provide up to 50 hours of listening time on a single charge while not powering the Visor.

The battery life is reduced to four hours while using the visor at its slowest setting. Increasing the filtration speed to “Mid” or “High” flow levels reduces battery life to two and a half hours and one and a half hours, respectively. Dyson claims that charging the battery from zero to 100 percent will take roughly three hours using USB-C. All of this means you’ll have to be careful about when you utilize the visor.
