The image is an early game concept art for 'Destiny Rising.' It depicts a futuristic, intense battle scene with several armored characters wielding weapons and engaging in combat. The background features a large, technologically advanced structure with blue lighting and electrical discharges, suggesting a high-energy environment. The characters are dynamically posed, indicating movement and action, with some leaping or running towards the central structure. The scene is set in a rainy, industrial setting, adding to the dramatic atmosphere. The text 'DESTINY RISING' is displayed in the upper left corner, and 'EARLY GAME CONCEPT ART' is written at the bottom.

If you’re a fan of the Destiny franchise—or even if you’re just curious about what’s next in the gaming world—you’re going to want to sit up and pay attention. For the uninitiated, Destiny is a blockbuster sci-fi shooter series famous for its deep lore, co-op missions, and pulse-pounding multiplayer battles. With Destiny 2 still thriving thanks to regular updates and expansions, Bungie is now taking the franchise somewhere new: your phone. That’s right—Destiny: Rising, a mobile spin-off, has an official release date, and it’s coming our way on August 28, 2025, for both iOS and Android.

So, what’s Destiny: Rising? Picture this: a sci-fi RPG shooter crafted by NetEase—yep, the folks behind Marvel Rivals and Once Human—in partnership with the Destiny OGs at Bungie. It’s not just a cash-grab port; it’s a full-on mobile experience designed to bring that signature Destiny vibe to your pocket. Whether you’re waiting for your coffee or kicking back on the couch, you’ll be able to dive into a universe of Lightbearers, alien threats, and shiny loot—all from your phone.

If you’ve played Destiny 2, the gameplay is going to feel familiar in the best way possible. The trailer shows off fast-paced shooting action that mirrors its console big brother, complete with the ability to tweak your loadouts on the fly. You’ve got your “Primary” weapon for everyday blasting and a “Power” weapon for when things get serious. But here’s where it gets interesting: outside of Super abilities, you can switch to a third-person mode. That’s right—you can scope out your Guardian’s sweet armor and slick moves while you’re mowing down enemies. It’s a small tweak that adds a whole new vibe to the action.

The game modes? They’re a tasty mix of old and new. For the co-op crowd, there are strike maps with six-player PvE missions—perfect for rounding up your squad to tackle some beefy bosses. If you’re more into flexing your skills against other players, the 3v3 PvP Co-op mode has you covered. Solo players, don’t worry—there’s a brand-new roguelike mode that’ll test your mettle in a fresh, unpredictable way. And if you just want to roam, there are open-world objectives that echo Destiny 2’s freeform exploration. Oh, and one more thing: a social hub where you can hang out, trade tips, and show off your gear, just like the Tower. It’s Destiny, but mobile-sized.

The setting is where Destiny: Rising starts to carve its own path. It’s set in an alternate timeline after the Dark Age—a gritty, chaotic era in Destiny lore—which means we’re getting a fresh story packed with new characters and skills. You’ll take on the role of the Wolf, a customizable Lightbearer who’s ready to make their mark. Prefer a familiar face? You can also step into the boots of legends like Iron Lord Jolder or Vanguard Ikora Rey. It’s a smart mix of new blood and fan-favorite cameos that’ll keep lore hounds and newcomers alike hooked.

Bungie’s not messing around with this one, either. A developer from the studio shared, “We wanted to bring the Destiny experience to a wider audience, and mobile gaming is the perfect platform for that. With Destiny: Rising, we’re aiming to deliver the same level of depth and excitement that players love, but in a format that’s accessible to everyone.” That’s a big promise, and from what we’ve seen, they’re backing it up.

NetEase and Bungie kicked things off with an announcement back in October 2024, and since then, they’ve been hard at work. They’ve already run a closed alpha for iOS and a closed beta for Android users in Canada and North America. Word from the beta testers? The graphics are jaw-dropping, and the gameplay is buttery smooth—some even say it feels like Destiny 2 on a console. For a mobile game, that’s huge. NetEase’s track record with polished titles definitely shines through here, and with Bungie’s expertise, this collab is looking like a match made in gaming heaven.

Good news: Destiny: Rising is free-to-play, so you won’t need to shell out upfront to jump in. There’ll be optional in-app purchases for cosmetics and convenience stuff, but don’t sweat it—no pay-to-win nonsense here. It’s built to run on a wide range of devices, needing just iOS 12 or later, Android 8.0 or later, and at least 2GB of RAM. Basically, if your phone isn’t ancient, you’re probably good to go.

Launch day’s going to be a party, too. NetEase and Bungie are planning a special event with exclusive in-game rewards for anyone who logs in during the first week. So, if you want to snag some sweet loot right out of the gate, make sure you’re ready on August 28, 2025.
