Cyberpunk 2077 is officially set to hit Apple’s Mac lineup early next year, thanks to the power of Apple silicon and some major software upgrades. The announcement, revealed alongside Apple’s latest M4 MacBook Pro models, signals a big leap forward in Mac gaming, which has traditionally lagged in compatibility with top-tier titles. CD Projekt Red, the game’s developer, has adapted the Ultimate Edition of Cyberpunk 2077, including the well-received Phantom Liberty expansion, specifically for Apple’s hardware, meaning players will finally be able to experience Night City with path tracing, frame generation, and Spatial Audio on their Apple devices.
This edition will be available on both the Mac App Store and Steam, and existing Steam users on PC can transition smoothly to Mac without losing their progress. However, a Mac with Apple silicon—like an M1, M2, M3, or the new M4 models—is essential for running the game. This announcement comes on the heels of Apple’s significant strides in gaming technology, particularly through its macOS update and Game Porting Toolkit, which have made popular titles more accessible on Apple devices.
Cyberpunk 2077’s initial release in 2020 was met with mixed reactions due to performance issues, especially on last-gen consoles, but numerous updates have since stabilized the game. Now, with a more powerful and optimized version arriving for Mac, players can expect a smoother experience on Apple’s latest hardware—a notable milestone that might even encourage more developers to consider Apple Silicon for future AAA titles. This move positions Apple as an increasingly viable gaming platform, a shift likely to thrill Mac users who have long-awaited mainstream gaming support.
