MacPaw is expanding CleanMyMac beyond traditional Mac maintenance with a new feature designed to tackle a different kind of digital clutter: overflowing email inboxes. Called Email Cleanup, the feature helps users organize years of accumulated messages, remove unwanted emails in bulk, and reclaim valuable Gmail storage without manually sorting through thousands of messages.
Announced on September 28, 2026, Email Cleanup brings inbox management into CleanMyMac, giving users a centralized way to review and clean up multiple Gmail accounts.
Clean up years of emails in bulk
Email inboxes can quickly become difficult to manage, particularly when promotional messages, newsletters, outdated notifications, and large attachments accumulate over several years. Instead of opening and deleting messages individually, CleanMyMac’s Email Cleanup groups emails to make bulk cleanup considerably easier.
Users can browse their messages by year and remove old newsletters, promotional emails, and spam in larger batches. This approach makes it easier to identify outdated messages without spending hours working through an inbox one email at a time.

The feature also helps users identify emails containing large attachments. CleanMyMac displays how much storage users could recover before they proceed with cleanup, making it easier to prioritize messages that are consuming significant Gmail storage space.
Another useful addition is support for multiple Gmail accounts. Users can connect more than one account and manage their inboxes from a single place rather than switching between different Gmail interfaces.
More control over deleting and managing emails
Email Cleanup isn’t limited to deleting unwanted messages. Users can choose between several actions, including deleting, archiving, unsubscribing, or combining these actions to manage email clutter in bulk.
MacPaw has also included a preview system to help prevent accidental cleanup. Users can review individual emails or entire senders before taking action, ensuring that important messages aren’t removed simply because they’re part of an older collection.
There is also a recovery option if users change their minds. Emails deleted through the feature are moved to Gmail’s Trash rather than being permanently erased, allowing users to recover them for up to 30 days.
Importantly, CleanMyMac doesn’t automatically delete, archive, or unsubscribe users from anything. Every action requires approval, leaving the final decision in the user’s hands.
How Email Cleanup handles Gmail access and privacy
Connecting an email account to a third-party application naturally raises questions about privacy and account access.
According to MacPaw, Email Cleanup connects to Gmail through Google’s official APIs and accesses only the information necessary to perform its cleanup functions. Users also decide how long they want to provide access and can disconnect their accounts whenever they’re finished.
The company further emphasizes that the feature never permanently deletes emails. Messages removed through Email Cleanup remain recoverable from Gmail’s Trash for up to 30 days.
These safeguards are particularly important for a feature that handles personal inboxes, where accidentally removing an important conversation can be more troublesome than dealing with a cluttered mailbox.
With Email Cleanup, MacPaw is extending CleanMyMac’s cleanup philosophy beyond files and storage on the Mac itself. The addition gives users another way to manage digital clutter, especially those juggling multiple Gmail accounts and years of accumulated messages.
