Pete Hines, the esteemed head of publishing at Bethesda, is resigning from his position after a successful 24-year tenure with the renowned gaming company. Hines made the announcement through a post on his social media platform, X (previously known as Twitter). In his statement, he expressed that his time with Bethesda had come to an end.
Hines’s tenure at Bethesda is a testament to his dedication and contributions to the gaming giant. He began his journey with the company back in 1999 as the senior vice president of global marketing and communications. Over the years, he became a prominent figure at Bethesda and even the recognizable face associated with the Fallout franchise. His ascent within the company culminated last year when he assumed the position of Bethesda’s head of publishing.
The gaming world has witnessed several pivotal changes within Bethesda in recent years. Most notably, in 2021, Microsoft completed its acquisition of the esteemed developer behind games like Skyrim. In August, Bethesda launched the highly-anticipated space exploration RPG, Starfield, although it was not without its initial challenges, with the earlier release of Redfall in May.
Hines took to social media to reassure fans, saying, “This is certainly not goodbye by any means. My love for Bethesda and its people has never wavered, and I will never stop being part of this incredible community we have grown.“
Bethesda, in its response to Hines’ retirement, acknowledged his remarkable impact. They mentioned, “Pete’s public presence was only a small part of his role at Bethesda, although the way he represented us carried over into the values he nurtured here: authenticity, integrity, and passion. His contributions have been integral in building Bethesda and its family of studios into the world-class organization that it is today.“
Hines disclosed that his decision to retire was not taken lightly and was not hurried. He emphasized that he feels the timing is right, especially following the launch of Starfield. This announcement marks a significant moment in the history of Bethesda and leaves many eagerly anticipating the next chapter for both the company and Pete Hines.
