Beats by Dr. Dre, the iconic audio brand owned by Apple, has just unveiled its latest offerings in the world of personal audio. Leading the charge is the highly anticipated Solo 4, the brand’s latest iteration of its popular on-ear wireless headphones, priced at $199.99. Simultaneously, Beats is introducing the Solo Buds, a budget-friendly pair of true wireless earbuds that aim to bring the brand’s signature sound to a wider audience.
The Solo 4 headphones promise an impressive battery life of up to 50 hours, a feat likely achieved by forgoing active noise cancellation, a feature that has become increasingly common in competing products within the same price range. However, Beats assures consumers that the Solo 4 offers a wealth of improvements to compensate for this omission.
One of the standout features of the Solo 4 is its versatility when it comes to connectivity. These headphones support wired audio over both USB-C and the traditional 3.5mm jack, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of devices. Additionally, Beats has implemented passive tuning, which allows the headphones to continue playing even when the battery is depleted, without any degradation in sound quality.

Beats has also emphasized the custom acoustic architecture that has gone into the Solo 4, promising an exceptional listening experience. Mirroring the capabilities of the Beats Studio Pro headphones released last year, the Solo 4 supports native software features on both iOS and Android devices, seamlessly integrating with the respective ecosystems.
Alongside the Solo 4, Beats is introducing the Solo Buds, a pair of true wireless earbuds priced at an affordable $79.99. Marketed as the brand’s entry-level wireless earbuds, the Solo Buds promise to deliver “big Beats sound in the smallest case we’ve ever made,” according to the company’s press release.

While active noise cancellation is absent from the Solo Buds, Beats claims that the earbuds provide adequate noise isolation to mitigate ambient noise. One notable trade-off at this price point is the lack of a charging case that can recharge the earbuds; instead, the Solo Buds offer up to 18 hours of battery life on a single charge, after which users will need to juice them up via USB-C.
The Solo Buds will be available in four vibrant colors: black, gray, purple, and a translucent red that draws inspiration from the Studio Buds Plus. With this launch, the Beats wireless earbud lineup now consists of the Beats Fit Pro, Powerbeats Pro, Beats Studio Buds Plus, and the newly introduced Beats Solo Buds.
While the Solo Buds won’t hit the shelves until June, the Solo 4 headphones are expected to be available sooner. This launch comes amid rumors of an unannounced Beats speaker spotted earlier this month with NBA superstar LeBron James, hinting that the brand may have more hardware releases in store.
With Apple rumored to unveil new AirPods later this fall, it seems that the tech giant is giving its Beats brand the spotlight during the spring and summer months.
