At Apple‘s It’s Glowtime event on September 9th, fans were treated to a bunch of exciting product reveals. However, one rumored device was noticeably absent—the Apple Watch SE with a plastic shell. While it didn’t make an appearance, don’t count it out just yet.
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple’s plan for a cheaper version of the Apple Watch SE, this time made of plastic, is still very much in the works. Gurman, who first broke the news about the company’s plan to develop an even more affordable version of their budget-friendly watch, says the plastic SE is “still moving forward.” But, it seems you’ll need to be patient—it’s now expected to launch sometime next year.
For a quick recap, Apple last refreshed the SE lineup in 2022, with the second generation of the watch bringing updates without breaking the bank. The rumored new version would feature a colorful, playful design aimed at younger users, likely to attract kids and teens. However, it’s believed Apple has hit a snag in the manufacturing process, particularly with the plastic build.

So, what did Apple focus on during its It’s Glowtime event? The spotlight was on the Apple Watch Series 10, which showed off a sleeker, thinner design and a larger display—pretty much in line with pre-event expectations.
While we didn’t see the plastic Apple Watch SE this time around, it sounds like Apple still has plans to bring it to life. We’ll just have to wait a little longer to see it on the wrists.
