Apple announced an exciting partnership with Disney today that aims to revolutionize the at-home movie experience. The tech giant revealed that when its highly anticipated Vision Pro virtual reality headset launches later this month, it will come pre-loaded with a suite of 3D movies from the Disney+ streaming service.
Disney+ subscribers will not only get to watch popular films like Avatar: The Way of Water, Avengers: Endgame and Star Wars: The Force Awakens in stunning 3D, but they’ll also be transported into special animated Disney-themed screening rooms to view the content. These imaginative environments take inspiration from classic Disney venues like the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood and settings from popular franchises like Monsters Inc., Marvel’s Avengers, and Star Wars.
In addition to the theatrical 3D movies mentioned earlier, the Vision Pro will launch with 3D versions of Disney hits like Encanto and exclusive 3D content just for Disney+ subscribers. More titles are expected to be announced as the headset’s release date approaches.
The Vision Pro will also come pre-installed with Apple’s TV app, offering consumers the ability to rent a wide range of 3D movies from other major Hollywood studios. Additionally, Apple touted supplemental “immersive entertainment” experiences like a performance by Alicia Keys and a 3D documentary from the creators of Planet Earth.
With game-changing technology like Apple Vision Pro hitting the market soon, it’s clear that immersive 3D content is ready for its long-awaited moment in the spotlight. Disney’s treasure trove of stories combined with Apple’s innovative hardware may finally help this promising format achieve mainstream success.
