With never-before-heard stories about Lincoln and close-up perspectives of him as a man, the docuseries shines a light on a side of Lincoln rarely seen — and provides a fresh perspective on a story that feels more timely and relevant than ever when explored alongside the events that Americans are living through today.
All four segments of “Lincoln’s Dilemma,” narrated by Jeffrey Wright and starring Bill Camp as Abraham Lincoln and Leslie Odom Jr. as Frederick Douglass, will premiere globally on Apple TV+ on Friday, February 18th.
The series, which is based on acclaimed historian David S. Reynolds’ award-winning book “Abe: Abraham Lincoln in His Times,” includes contributions from a wide range of journalists, educators, and Lincoln scholars, as well as rare archival materials that provide a more nuanced look at the man known as the Great Emancipator.
Set against the backdrop of the Civil War, “Lincoln’s Dilemma” also provides a voice to enslaved people’s stories, forming a more full picture of an America divided over concerns such as economy, racism, and humanity, and highlighting Lincoln’s quest to defend the country at whatever cost.
Eden Productions and Kunhardt Films are producing “Lincoln’s Dilemma.” Peter Kunhardt, Teddy Kunhardt, George Kunhardt, Josh Tyrangiel, Richard Plepler, Jacqueline Olive, Barak Goodman, and Jelani Cobb serve as executive producers. The series is directed by Olive and Goodman.
