The NAACP Image Award-winning mystery anthology series ‘Truth Be Told,’ starring and executive produced by Academy Award winner Octavia Spencer, and created and executed by Nichelle Tramble Spellman, has been renewed for a third season by Apple TV+. Maisha Tramble, who also acts as showrunner and executive producer, scripted season three of ‘Truth Be Told.’
“I am excited that the Poppy Scoville journey will continue to unfold on Apple TV+. And, I’m just thrilled to welcome Maisha Closson as our new showrunner and executive producer,” said creator and executive producer Nichelle Tramble Spellman. “Can’t wait to show you all what we have in store for you.”
“‘Truth Be Told’ continues to captivate audiences around the world with its strong performances from Octavia Spencer and the cast, as well as the riveting storytelling from the immensely talented Nichelle Tramble Spellman,” said Matt Cherniss, head of development, Apple Worldwide Video. “We, along with the show’s global fans, can’t wait for the story to continue in season three.”
“Truth Be Told,” which digs into the realm of true-crime podcasts, stars Octavia Spencer as podcaster Poppy Scoville, who risks everything — including her life — in the pursuit of truth and justice. The series, based on Kathleen Barber’s novel, offers a unique look into America’s love with true crime podcasts while also challenging viewers to examine the consequences of putting the search for justice on a public stage. Micah Keith, Poppy’s childhood friend, and media billionaire was introduced in the second season of “Truth Be Told,” starring Academy Award contender Kate Hudson in her first main role in a television series.
