Apple has just upped its game in the world of sports with the launch of the Apple Sports app for iPhone. The new app aims to be a one-stop destination for sports scores, stats, news and betting odds across a wide range of major professional and college leagues.

With sports streaming and betting booming in popularity, Apple saw an opportunity to leverage its existing investments in live sports rights and bring everything together in a free app for iPhone users. Apple has been ramping up sports streaming offerings over the past couple years, having launched the MLS Season Pass soccer streaming service in 2023 as well as airing weekly MLB baseball games on Apple TV+.

The Apple Sports app ties directly into these streaming services, allowing users to jump straight from a score or stats into watching a live game. The app launches with support for leagues like the NBA, NHL, Premier League, NCAA, MLS and more. Apple stated that over time they aim to add additional popular leagues like NFL, MLB, NWSL and WNBA.

Amid the scores, schedules, standings and statistics offered in the clean Apple Sports interface, users will also find betting odds from major sportsbooks. While the app does not actually offer sports betting, displaying the up-to-date odds allows fans to stay on top of the latest lines. For those not interested in gambling, the odds can be disabled in the app settings.

The launch of Apple Sports represents the tech giant’s commitment to becoming a go-to destination for sports fans through their devices. By combining live streaming access, up-to-the-minute scores and betting intel in one free app, Apple looks to score big with sports lovers. Whether for tracking a favorite team’s playoff push or researching betting angles for the big game, the Apple Sports app lets fans stay on the pulse of all the action.
