Apple has begun offering refurbished versions of its latest 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro laptops equipped with the powerful M3 Pro and M3 Max chips, the company announced Tuesday. The refurbished models represent the first opportunity for customers to purchase high-end portable workstations at a discount since their initial release last October.
The refurbished inventory includes both base models and custom-configured systems featuring the M3 Pro or M3 Max chips paired with options like increased RAM, additional onboard storage, and upgraded GPU cores over base configurations.
Pricing for the entry-level 14-inch refurbished M3 Pro model with an 11-core CPU and 14-core GPU starts at $1,699, a savings of $300 compared to the original $1,999 MSRP. The 16-inch refurbished base M3 Pro model is available starting at $2,119, providing a $380 discount versus the previous $2,499 new model cost.
Higher specified versions with 32GB or 64GB RAM, 1TB to 8TB SSD storage, and GPUs up to 38-cores for the M3 Max can also be found in the refurbished section, albeit with limited availability that may fluctuate day-to-day. Customers interested in a particular configuration are advised to check back often for restocks.
Apple says its refurbished products undergo a rigorous restoration process before being offered for sale, including full functional testing to ensure they meet the company’s quality standards. All defective parts are replaced and the devices are thoroughly cleaned and inspected.
The refurbished laptops come with the same 1-year warranty and 14-day no questions asked return policy as new models. Purchasers also have the option to add on AppleCare+ extended coverage plans.
For professionals and power users seeking cutting edge Apple laptop performance at a bit of a discount, the refurbished M3 Pro and M3 Max MacBook Pro models now offer an appealing middle ground option before the pending M4 launch. The refurbished inventory provides a chance to acquire Apple’s phenomenal mobile silicon at more budget-friendly prices.
