For years, iPhone users on Google Fi have been patiently waiting for the ability to send rich communication services (RCS) messages. This modern texting standard promises features like read receipts, typing indicators, and higher-quality photo and video sharing. While iOS 18 has finally brought RCS to iPhones, it’s still not available for Google Fi users.
Why the delay? According to Google, it’s entirely up to Apple. The tech giant has the power to enable RCS interoperability for iPhone users on Google Fi’s network. While Google has done its part, it seems Apple is the one holding back.
“Only Apple has the ability to enable RCS interoperability for iPhone users on Fi, and our hope is that they will do so in the near future,” Google told 9to5Google.
So, when can we expect RCS on Google Fi for iPhones? Unfortunately, that’s a question only Apple can answer. Fingers crossed that they’ll finally flip the switch and let iPhone users on Google Fi enjoy the benefits of RCS messaging.
