There is a rumor that Apple is planning to introduce a new model called “iPhone 17 Slim” as part of its 2025 smartphone lineup. This information comes from a research note by Jeff Pu, an analyst at Haitong International Securities. The new model is expected to replace the Plus variant of the iPhone, which is currently part of the lineup. The launch of the iPhone 16 series is also eagerly anticipated and expected to happen in the next few months.
Pu’s report suggests that this sleeker iteration of Apple’s flagship device will boast a 6.6-inch display, a svelte design, and internals befitting the company’s cutting-edge hardware. Powering the device could be either the A18 or A19 chip, accompanied by a generous 8GB of RAM. The camera system is rumored to receive a substantial upgrade, with a 24-megapixel front-facing shooter and a 48-megapixel telephoto lens gracing the rear array.
Corroborating these claims, the well-regarded display industry analyst Ross Young has weighed in, stating that the iPhone 17 Slim will feature a 6.55-inch display – a marginal reduction from the 6.7-inch panel adorning the current iPhone 15 Plus. Pu further suggests that, in a departure from the premium titanium chassis employed in the Pro models, the iPhone 17 Slim will don an aluminum enclosure, likely in a bid to curtail manufacturing costs.
While specific details regarding the device’s external design remain scarce, Pu asserts that Apple is planning some aesthetic alterations to differentiate the iPhone 17 Slim from its predecessors. However, as is often the case with early rumors, the veracity of these claims should be approached with cautious skepticism, as the device’s final specifications and features may evolve significantly ahead of its anticipated September 2025 unveiling.
