In the seven years since Apple’s groundbreaking iPhone X introduced OLED displays and Face ID, the tech giant has kept its design changes minimal. However, recent reports from The Information suggest that Apple is gearing up for a significant redesign with the introduction of the “Slim” iPhone, anticipated to launch as part of the iPhone 17 lineup in 2025. This model could potentially carry a price tag surpassing that of Apple’s current high-end offering, the iPhone Pro Max.

The iPhone 17 Slim is expected to represent a substantial shift in design philosophy for Apple. According to 9to5Mac, Haitong International analyst Jeff Pu has indicated that the new models will sport a refined aesthetic, featuring a smaller Dynamic Island—a feature introduced in recent iPhone iterations that houses various sensor and camera components in a pill-shaped cutout. Pu’s insights align with a broader expectation that Apple will continue to iterate on its signature features while pushing the boundaries of design.

The upcoming iPhone 16, set to release later this year, is rumored to include a larger display and a new side button. Building on these changes, the iPhone 17 Slim is predicted to have a 6.6-inch display, positioning it between the 6.1-inch standard model and the 6.9-inch Pro Max variant. However, analyst Ross Young offers a slightly different take, suggesting the new model might feature a 6.55-inch screen.

The Information’s sources reveal that Apple is currently evaluating multiple design prototypes for the new high-end iPhone. Some of the proposed features include an aluminum frame, a reduced front-facing camera cutout, and a central alignment for the rear cameras. These changes aim to streamline the device’s appearance and enhance user experience.

Additionally, there are whispers about a significant battery innovation. Supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo previously reported that the iPhone 16 Pro Max might incorporate a stainless steel battery case, which could dramatically increase energy density. If this technology proves successful, it is likely to be implemented across all iPhone 17 models, further enhancing battery life and overall performance.

While Apple has not officially confirmed these rumors, the consistent flow of information from reputable analysts and insiders suggests that the company is indeed planning something revolutionary for its 2025 lineup. The iPhone 17 Slim, with its potential for a sleeker design and advanced features, may set a new standard for smartphones.
