Apple‘s next flagship phone, expected to be called the iPhone 16 Pro Max, could be the most advanced and impressive iPhone yet if recent leaks turn out to be accurate.

According to details shared by notable leaker yeux1122 on South Korean site Naver, the iPhone 16 Pro Max will have a significantly larger battery capacity than the already impressive 4,441 mAh battery in the current iPhone 15 Pro Max. While an exact number wasn’t given, the leaker said that combined with expected efficiency improvements, the iPhone 16 Pro Max will deliver the longest battery life ever in an iPhone.

This lines up with another leak that pointed to a 4,676 mAh battery in the 16 Pro Max, which would be a nearly 6% increase over the 15 Pro Max. The regular iPhone 16 Pro is also said to get a battery boost, but likely won’t match the Max model.

The camera system is shaping up to be another major area of improvement, with the 16 Pro Max reportedly gaining Apple’s long-rumored “super periscope” telephoto camera. This additional camera with a periscope-style lens could allow for dramatically increased optical zoom ranges. Previous rumors point to possibilities like 10x or longer, well beyond the 5x optical zoom in the iPhone 15 Pro Max. The iPhone 16 Pro meanwhile may stick with 5x like its predecessor.

Both models are said to be upgrading to 48-megapixel ultra-wide cameras from 12 megapixels. A new physical camera shutter button that makes it quicker to take photos and start recording video is also expected.

Performance should take a leap as well with the anticipated new A18 Pro chip, while max storage is doubling to 2TB from 1TB. The Pro models will reportedly stick with 8GB of RAM.

Display sizes are tipped to increase slightly to 6.3 inches on the iPhone 16 Pro and 6.9 inches on the 16 Pro Max while keeping a similar overall device size thanks to shrinking bezels.

One intriguing exclusive cited for the Pro models is unspecified AI features taking advantage of the new chip and machine learning capabilities. This may relate to the camera, but details are slim for now.

Finally, the source says improvements to titanium frame production will significantly lower costs, potentially allowing some savings to be passed to consumers.

Adding it all up, the iPhone 16 Pro Max in particular sounds like a potentially monumental update positioned to be the most advanced iPhone Apple has ever created. For those less concerned about price, it seems primed to be the iPhone to beat this year. But the regular iPhone 16 Pro also appears to bring substantial changes that may interest people wanting a slightly smaller device. Either way, it’s an exciting time for iPhone enthusiasts and we can’t wait to see how the actual devices compare when they likely get officially unveiled around September 2024.
