In a world where we’re constantly on the go, waiting for your phone to charge can be a major hassle. Thankfully, Apple’s new iPhone 16 series is here to cut down on that wait time. All the iPhone 16 models unveiled this week can reportedly charge more than 50 percent faster when connected via a USB-C cable than their predecessors, iPhone 15.
That’s right—Apple is finally stepping up its wired charging game. According to a certification from the China Quality Certification Centre (shared on Weibo and later posted to X by the ever-reliable ShrimpApplePro), the iPhone 16 lineup supports up to 45 watts (W) of wired fast charging. That’s a noticeable jump from the iPhone 15’s max charging power of 29W.
To break that down: the iPhone 16 models were tested at 5-15 volts and 3 amps, which translates to a maximum of 45W. Compare that to Google’s Pixel 9, which tops out at 27W (or 37W if you have the Pro XL), and it’s clear that Apple is catching up in the fast-charging race. It’s also on par with Samsung’s Galaxy S24 Ultra. But before we get too excited, keep in mind that some phones from Chinese brands, like Realme, boast crazy fast charging speeds of 240W or even 320W.
While Apple still has a way to go to match those dizzying numbers, 45W is still a pretty solid upgrade for iPhone users. We’ll take it.
And it’s not just wired charging that got an upgrade. The iPhone 16 series also boasts faster wireless charging. Thanks to improvements in MagSafe, the latest iPhones can now wirelessly charge at 25W—up from the 15W of previous models—if you pair them with a 30W power adapter. Plus, they’re also compatible with the new Qi2 standard, making charging even more versatile.
So, if you’re someone who hates waiting around for your phone to juice up, the iPhone 16 is about to make your life a little easier. Faster, wired, wireless—however you prefer to charge, Apple’s got you covered.
