Setting up Face ID on iPhone

Apple‘s upcoming iOS 18 update is set to bring a significant upgrade for iPhone users concerned about privacy and security. According to reliable sources, iOS 18 will introduce a brand new feature that allows users to lock individual apps behind Face ID.

This means you’ll be able to add an extra layer of protection to sensitive apps like Mail, Messages, Notes, Photos, Banking apps, and even system settings. Imagine lending your phone to a friend and having peace of mind knowing they can’t access your private messages or photos even if they bypass the lock screen.

Unlocking these locked apps will require a Face ID scan. The feature is also likely to work with Touch ID (on compatible iPhones) or your standard passcode for added flexibility.

It’s important to note that while this information comes from credible sources, Apple has not officially confirmed this feature yet. There’s also no word on whether the app locking will extend to third-party apps downloaded from the App Store.

This new functionality goes beyond what Apple currently offers. Currently, you can lock specific content within certain apps, like notes in the Notes app or photos hidden within specific albums in the Photos app. However, iOS 18 takes things a step further by allowing you to lock the entire app itself, even if your iPhone is already unlocked.

For iPhone users who have been relying on workarounds like Screen Time or Shortcuts to achieve a similar effect, iOS 18 will be a welcome update. These methods can be cumbersome and indirect, and the new built-in app locking feature promises a more streamlined and secure approach.

Apple is expected to officially unveil iOS 18 during its WWDC keynote on Monday, June 10th. We’ll be sure to keep you updated with all the official details and exciting new features coming to your iPhone with the upcoming software update.
