Despite the initial buzz and lofty price tag, Apple‘s Vision Pro hasn’t quite captured the public imagination as expected. Yet, the tech giant isn’t backing down from its foray into spatial computing. In fact, it’s doubling down.
According to Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman, Apple is hard at work on not one, but two new headset projects. The first is a sequel to the Vision Pro, promising to refine and improve upon the original. The second is a more affordable version, potentially dubbed “Apple Vision,” aimed at a wider audience. This cheaper model could hit the market as early as 2025.
But Apple’s ambitions don’t stop there. The company is also exploring the realm of smart glasses, similar to Meta’s Ray-Ban Stories. While there’s no concrete timeline for these “Apple Glass,” it’s clear the company is intrigued by the potential of this wearable technology. However, turning these glasses into a fully-fledged augmented reality device appears to be a complex challenge, potentially delaying their launch.
One of the biggest hurdles for the Vision Pro has been its hefty price tag. To broaden its appeal, Apple is reportedly considering a more budget-friendly option priced around $1,500. Reducing weight is another key area of focus, as many users have found the current model to be uncomfortable for extended wear.
