For months, iPhone users have been waiting with bated breath for the arrival of game streaming apps on the App Store. Finally, the wait is over! Antstream, a platform dedicated to retro gaming, is set to become the iPhone’s first official game streaming app, launching on June 27th.
This is a landmark moment for iPhone gamers, especially those with a fondness for classic titles. Antstream Arcade boasts a library of over 1,300 retro games, taking you on a nostalgic trip down memory lane. Think Atari consoles, Commodore 64, nostalgic DOS games, and even a sprinkling of arcade classics. While you might not find the latest blockbusters like Metal Gear Solid, you can definitely revisit gems like Hogs of War.
The arrival of Antstream is particularly interesting when considering Apple’s previous stance on game streaming apps. While the company cited developer feedback as the reason for their policy shift, it’s likely the European Union’s Digital Markets Act (DMA) played a significant role. Implemented in 2023, the DMA aims to foster competition and prevent anti-consumer practices among tech giants. Earlier this year, Apple announced a change in its policy, allowing developers to submit single apps offering access to entire game libraries – a move they had previously resisted.
Antstream typically charges a subscription fee of $5 per month or $40 annually. However, to celebrate their iOS launch, they’re offering a special introductory price – just $4 per month or $30 for a year. So, dust off your virtual joystick and get ready to relive the golden age of gaming on your iPhone!
