Amazon is making its discounted Prime membership more appealing to younger customers. Prime for Young Adults now comes with a six-month $0 trial, followed by a discounted price of $7.49 per month or $69 per year. Eligible members can also earn 5% cash back on purchases in select categories.
The membership is available to 18- to 24-year-olds and higher-education students in the U.S. Amazon says Prime for Young Adults provides the same core Prime benefits as a regular membership at half the standard price.
Prime for Young Adults costs $7.49 per month after the trial
Eligible new members can try Prime for Young Adults for six months for $0. After the trial, the membership costs $7.49 per month or $69 per year.
For comparison, regular Prime currently costs $14.99 per month or $139 per year in the U.S., making Prime for Young Adults roughly half the regular membership price.
The program is no longer limited to people who are actively enrolled in college. Amazon specifically makes Prime for Young Adults available to people between 18 and 24, while higher-education students can also qualify.
To verify eligibility, Amazon says young adults can provide a driver’s license, passport, or identity card. Students enrolled in a two- or four-year college can use their .edu email address.
Members can earn 5% cash back
The other major perk is 5% cash back on eligible purchases.
For a limited time, Prime for Young Adults members can earn 5% cash back when purchasing items in categories including beauty, apparel, electronics, PCs, and personal care. Amazon also says it will offer additional promotions, including double- and triple-cash-back opportunities and exclusive deals throughout the year.
The cash-back categories and rates can change over time, so the 5% offer shouldn’t be treated as a permanent benefit across every purchase.
You get the regular Prime benefits, too
Prime for Young Adults isn’t a reduced version of Prime. Amazon says members receive the same core Prime benefits at the discounted price.
That includes free Prime delivery, access to Prime Day and Prime Big Deal Days, Prime Video, Amazon Music, Amazon Luna, Amazon Photos and other Prime benefits. Members also get free Grubhub+, which Amazon values at $120 per year, along with fuel savings at participating bp, Amoco and ampm locations.
Prime Video includes Amazon Originals, movies, shows and live sports, while Amazon Music provides ad-free access to 100 million songs and podcasts. Members also get access to books and comics, cloud gaming through Amazon Luna and a free Twitch channel subscription.
Prime for Young Adults replaces the old Prime Student focus
Amazon previously promoted this discounted membership primarily around Prime Student, but Prime for Young Adults puts the focus on age rather than college enrollment.
That’s an important distinction. Someone who is 18 to 24 doesn’t need to be a college student to qualify, while college students can still sign up using their .edu email address. Amazon’s current Prime pages describe the program as available to both higher-education students and young adults ages 18 to 24.
For GadgetBond readers looking for the current discounted Amazon Prime offering, Prime for Young Adults is therefore the more relevant program to cover going forward.
How to sign up for Prime for Young Adults
Eligible customers can sign up through Amazon’s Prime for Young Adults page and complete the required age or student verification.
The six-month trial costs $0. After that, the membership continues at $7.49 per month or $69 per year unless canceled.

Amazon’s updated Prime for Young Adults program gives younger customers a longer trial, a discounted membership price and additional cash-back opportunities, while keeping the same core Prime experience.
