For avid readers and families seeking an affordable e-reader option, Amazon’s latest sale on the Kindle Kids model offers a tempting opportunity. After months of scarcity in Kindle deals, the tide seems to be turning, and the 2022 Kindle Kids is now available at a compelling $20 discount, bringing its price down to $99.99.

  • Kindle Kids (2022 model) — $100 at Amazon / Best Buy

The current promotion marks the first time since the Black Friday period that the kid-friendly version of Amazon’s budget e-reader has received such a substantial price cut. While not quite reaching the all-time low of $79.99 witnessed in October, this sale nonetheless presents one of the better pricing opportunities for the device to date.

Beyond the Kindle Kids, Amazon has also slashed prices on other models in its e-reader lineup. The Kindle Scribe, a more premium offering, is now available for $254.99, reflecting an $85 discount from its regular price. Similarly, the Kindle Paperwhite Kids has received a $35 price cut, bringing its cost down to $134.99.

While marketed as a kid-friendly device, the Kindle Kids is essentially identical to the standard, ad-free Kindle in terms of hardware specifications. It boasts the same crisp 300ppi display, USB-C support, and impressive battery life that have made Amazon’s e-readers a popular choice among bibliophiles.

The key differentiators for the Kindle Kids lie in its additional features tailored for younger users. It includes optional parental controls, allowing guardians to monitor and manage their children’s reading habits. Additionally, the device comes with a colorful case and an extended two-year warranty, providing an added layer of protection against the wear and tear that often accompanies children’s use of electronics.

Perhaps the most enticing aspect of this sale for families is the inclusion of a one-year subscription to Amazon Kids Plus. This service grants access to a vast library of games, videos, and popular book series such as Artemis Fowl, Percy Jackson, and the beloved Harry Potter franchise, ensuring that young readers will have a wealth of engaging content at their fingertips.

For parents or adults without children who are simply seeking a capable and affordable e-reader, the Kindle Kids remains a compelling option. Its identical hardware to the standard Kindle, combined with the current discount and additional warranty coverage, make it a worthwhile consideration for anyone in the market for a new e-reader.
