If you’ve ever found yourself glued to your screen, binge-watching your favorite shows on Netflix, you know that it usually comes with those pesky pop-ups asking, “Are you still watching?” Well, Netflix has a treat for you as it marks one year of its ad-supported plan. In a bid to keep you engaged and satisfied, the streaming giant is offering users on this plan every fourth episode of a consecutive binge without any ads. It’s the perfect incentive to keep you hooked for just one more episode (and then maybe another five without moving).
Netflix is also set to roll out a feature that’s bound to make many users happy — the ability to download shows and movies on its ad-supported tier. Netflix proudly claims to be the first streaming platform to make this option available to users who have ads included in their experience. While the ad-free binge-watching perk won’t be available until early 2024, the download feature should be at your fingertips by the end of this week. However, it remains unclear whether downloaded content will enjoy the ad-free binge-watching perk once it’s introduced.
Netflix’s journey into ad-supported content is a surprising twist for a company that initially vowed never to have an ad-supported tier. Since its launch in Oct. 2022, Netflix has fully embraced this format. They even introduced their first Title Sponsorship during the recent season of “Love Is Blind.” The trend will continue with partnerships for other reality series, including “Squid Game: The Challenge” and the final season of “The Crown.” Early 2024 will see advertisers given the option to include a QR code in any of their US-based content.
The ad-supported plan from Netflix is the most budget-friendly option, especially after the streaming giant trimmed its Basic tier in mid-2023. For just $6.99 per month, you can enjoy this tier, while the Standard plan is priced at $15.49, and the Premium plan costs $22.49. The lowest-priced tier allows for two concurrent streams and has been upgraded to provide 1080p video quality, a step up from the previous 720p resolution.
