Acer has just dropped a new laptop that’s giving the MacBook Air a run for its money, and it’s called the TravelMate P6 14 AI. If you’re a Windows fan and the sleek MacBook isn’t quite your style, this could be the laptop you’re looking for.
First off, the TravelMate P6 14 AI (yeah, that name is a bit of a mouthful) is all about being slim and light. It’s rocking Intel’s brand-new Core Ultra Series 2 processors. What’s cool here is the built-in neural processing unit (NPU), which offers up to 48 TOPS (Tera Operations Per Second). This means it’s got some serious juice for AI and machine learning tasks right on the laptop itself. It’s great for features like Live Captions with real-time translation and even some nifty effects for your camera and mic. Once Microsoft rolls out their update, you’ll also get Recall functionality.
This laptop falls into the “Copilot+ PC” category, meaning it’s designed to handle local AI tasks efficiently. There’s even a dedicated Copilot key on the keyboard for quick access to Microsoft’s Copilot AI, though keep in mind that this AI won’t run directly on the laptop. Even if AI isn’t your thing, the NPU will still give a boost to everyday tasks.
In terms of size, the TravelMate P6 14 AI is impressively thin. It measures just 2.35 x 9.03 x 0.63/0.66 inches (313.7 x 229.3 x 15.90/16.65 mm) and weighs only 2.18 pounds (0.99 kg). That’s almost as thin as the current MacBook Pro, which comes in at 0.61 inches deep. Acer hasn’t skimped on connectivity, either. You get two Thunderbolt 4/USB4 Type-C ports, two USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A ports, HDMI 2.1, and an audio jack.
The screen is spacious 14 inches with a 16:10 aspect ratio, offering a bright 400 nits and full 100% sRGB coverage. Depending on the model, you can get a resolution of either WQXGA+ (2880×1800) or WUXGA (1920×1200). The webcam is 1440p with a physical privacy shutter to keep things secure.
When it comes to performance, there are several Intel Core Ultra 7 options to choose from, including the Ultra 7 268V, 266V, 258V, and 256V, plus a more budget-friendly Intel Core Ultra 5 225V. The laptop supports Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, up to 1TB of M.2 SSD storage, and up to 32GB of RAM. The battery is a 65Whr unit, promising up to 14 hours of use on a single charge, according to Acer’s MobileMark 2025 tests.
The TravelMate P6 14 AI looks like a solid premium Windows laptop. It’s probably not the best choice for heavy gaming or high-resolution video editing since there’s no discrete graphics card. But if you’re looking for a sleek, powerful machine for everyday tasks, this one might just be worth considering. Expect to see it hit North American stores in January 2025, starting at $1,499.99.
