Microsoft is giving its Xbox PC app a substantial upgrade, promising faster startup times, quicker page loading, improved game library navigation, and easier access to friends and social features. The redesigned experience is rolling out to Xbox Insiders, with performance improvements designed to make finding and launching games less frustrating.

Announced on November 5, the update is part of Microsoft’s broader effort to create a more consistent Xbox experience across PCs, the web, cloud gaming, TVs, and VR headsets. The biggest changes are arriving in the Windows PC app, where Microsoft says some everyday actions should now feel noticeably faster.

Xbox PC app gets up to 60 percent faster startup times

Performance is one of the main highlights of the redesigned Xbox PC app. According to Microsoft, the application now launches up to 60 percent faster, while individual sections also benefit from significant improvements.

The Home, Store, and Game Pass pages can load up to 50 percent faster, while in-app windows open up to 65 percent faster. These improvements should make everyday navigation more responsive, particularly for players who frequently switch between their game library, the store, and Game Pass.

Microsoft notes that these figures come from its internal testing, so actual improvements may vary depending on the device, internet connection, system configuration, and usage.

Beyond performance, Microsoft is also simplifying how players navigate their game collections. The updated Library introduces simpler navigation, refreshed filters, and additional organization options to help players find installed games and other titles more easily.

Friends, social features, and search get improvements

The redesigned app also makes social features easier to access. Friends and social functionality now appear directly in the main navigation instead of feeling like separate destinations.

Players can more easily check what their friends are playing, start conversations, and join parties without navigating through multiple sections.

Search is also getting an upgrade. Microsoft is bringing more content into a single search experience, including games, installed titles, add-ons, and people. This should make it easier to find a particular game or connect with friends from one place.

The visual experience is receiving attention, too. Refreshed game cards, an updated Home page, redesigned Settings, and improved animations give the application a cleaner appearance.

Xbox cloud gaming gets a redesigned web experience

The PC application isn’t the only part of Xbox receiving attention. Microsoft is also expanding the availability of its refreshed Xbox cloud gaming web experience, which previously entered testing with Xbox Insiders earlier this year.

Over the coming weeks, the redesigned web experience will automatically reach more players. Those who want to try it earlier can visit play.xbox.com.

One of the most useful additions is a dedicated Library tab that brings together cloud-playable games, including titles players own and those available through Xbox Game Pass. The library supports browsing, sorting, and filtering based on recently played games, genres, input options, and other criteria.

Microsoft is also introducing a desktop mode that makes better use of available screen space on PCs and larger displays. This should make browsing through games more convenient than the previous experience.

Accessibility and customization are getting attention as well. Players can choose between dark and light themes, alongside five new high-contrast options designed to accommodate different visual needs and preferences.

Xbox brings a familiar interface to TVs and VR headsets

Microsoft is extending the refreshed design beyond PCs and web browsers. The company is beginning to introduce updated visuals and navigation to Xbox cloud gaming applications on supported televisions and VR headsets.

The idea is to make the core Xbox experience more consistent regardless of the screen being used. Players should find it easier to locate their games, understand which titles are available, and get into gameplay without having to learn an entirely different interface on each device.

Microsoft says these changes are part of its ongoing effort to make Xbox faster, simpler, and more familiar across different platforms.

When can you get the updated Xbox PC app?

The redesigned Xbox PC app is currently available for testing through the Xbox Insider Program. Microsoft hasn’t provided a specific public release date for the updated PC application.

Players who want early access can join the Xbox Insider Program by downloading the Xbox Insider Hub through the Microsoft Store on Windows PCs.

Meanwhile, the refreshed cloud gaming web experience is expanding to more players over the coming weeks, while updates for supported TV and VR applications are also beginning to roll out.

For Windows PC gamers, the performance improvements could be particularly welcome. A gaming launcher shouldn’t feel like another application players have to wait around for, and Microsoft’s latest update addresses that frustration while making the Xbox ecosystem easier to navigate.
