Amazon has introduced a new family of Amazon Kids tablets, bringing Android software, parent-managed Google Play access, and age-specific protective cases to devices designed for younger and older children. Announced on October 8, 2026, the new lineup includes two models with 8.7-inch and 11-inch displays, giving families different options for entertainment, creative activities, reading, and learning.
The new Amazon Kids Tablet 8 starts at $229.99, while the larger Amazon Kids Tablet 11 starts at $329.99. Both models include a protective case, a one-year Amazon Kids+ subscription, and built-in parental controls. Preorders are open, with shipments scheduled to begin October 14 in the US.
Two tablet sizes for different age groups
Amazon is offering the new Kids tablets in two sizes, with distinct configurations for children ages 3 and older and children ages 6 and older.
The Amazon Kids Tablet 8 features an 8.7-inch display and 64GB of storage. Amazon says the device can deliver up to 14 hours of video playback, making it suitable for watching shows, playing games, reading books, and using apps while traveling. Its included soft bumper case is designed for younger children and comes in character-themed designs.
The Amazon Kids Tablet 11 targets older children with a larger 11-inch display, a 2.5K resolution, and 8GB of RAM. It also supports a stylus, opening up more possibilities for drawing, creative projects, and schoolwork. Its included slim hard case has a built-in kickstand, allowing children to prop up the tablet while watching videos or working on assignments.
Both devices run Android, marking a more flexible approach to Amazon’s child-focused tablets. Rather than relying exclusively on Amazon’s curated content catalog, parents can manage access to Google Play and approve additional apps as their children’s needs change.
Parental controls remain central to the experience
Amazon is pairing the hardware with its Parent Dashboard, which comes pre-installed on the new tablets. Parents can also access the dashboard through a free app for iOS and Android devices.
The dashboard allows parents and guardians to manage screen time, apply content filters, and monitor their children’s activity remotely. Amazon is also highlighting weekly insights designed to help parents understand what their children are exploring and learning.
Google Play access is managed through parental controls, with every app download requiring parental approval. This gives families the option to introduce apps outside the Amazon Kids+ catalog without handing children unrestricted access to the wider app ecosystem.
The approach is intended to balance greater flexibility with the controls parents expect from a tablet designed specifically for children.
Amazon Kids+ adds creative tools and familiar characters
Every new Amazon Kids tablet includes a one-year subscription to Amazon Kids+, which offers a curated collection of age-appropriate books, games, videos, apps, and audiobooks.
The service includes content from recognizable entertainment and children’s brands such as Disney, Nickelodeon, LEGO, Sesame Street, and Harry Potter. Younger children can explore content featuring characters such as Bluey and Peppa Pig, while older kids have access to material aimed at more advanced interests.
Amazon is also adding AI-powered creative experiences to Kids+. One of the new features is Storybuilder, which lets children use their voices to create original illustrated stories.
The included subscription provides an ad-free environment for the curated Kids+ content. After the first year, ongoing subscriptions start at $7.99 per month for Prime members and $8.99 per month for customers without Prime, according to Amazon.
Pricing and availability
The new Amazon Kids tablets are available to preorder through Amazon.com, with select retail partners including Best Buy and Target also expected to carry the devices.

With Android, managed Google Play access, and separate hardware options for younger and older children, Amazon’s new Kids tablets aim to offer families more flexibility as children grow. The main consideration for buyers will be the higher starting prices compared with more basic kids’ tablets, balanced against the larger displays, included subscriptions, and parental management features.
