Nearly a year after its iPhone debut, Adobe Premiere is now available as a free Android video-editing app.

Adobe Premiere has officially arrived on Android, giving millions of smartphone users access to Adobe’s dedicated mobile video editor for the first time.

The Android release comes nearly a year after Adobe introduced the redesigned Premiere mobile experience on iPhone. The company says the Android version was built around the way creators use different Android devices, with the app designed to work across a range of screen sizes and form factors.

More importantly, Adobe is making the core Premiere mobile experience free. Users can download the app and start editing without being forced to sign in, upgrade, or subscribe to Creative Cloud. Adobe says users can edit, save projects locally and export videos without an Adobe account, although some features and content require sign-in.

For mobile creators, the biggest draw is that Premiere isn’t simply a basic clip-trimming tool. It brings a proper multi-track editing timeline to Android, allowing users to layer video, music, voiceovers, text and effects while maintaining frame-accurate control over their edits.

That makes it possible to do considerably more than quick social-media edits. A creator can fine-tune cuts to music, combine multiple video tracks, add transitions and effects, and build a complete short-form production directly on a phone.

Premiere brings more serious editing tools to Android

One of the standout features is Enhance Audio, which can reduce distracting background noise and improve the clarity of interviews, voiceovers and other recordings with a single tap. That’s particularly useful for creators recording content in less-than-ideal environments where controlling background noise isn’t always possible.

The app also includes a multi-track timeline for combining video, music, voiceovers and effects. Adobe says creators can use frame-accurate editing to precisely trim clips and synchronize edits with music or specific moments in a video.

There are also creator-made templates for getting projects started quickly, along with effects, transitions and creative assets. Users can pull in their own files, use music and other material from Adobe Stock, or extract audio from their existing content.

Videos can be exported at resolutions of up to 4K, and exports are free from watermarks. Adobe also says the app has no advertisements or forced upgrade prompts, giving the editing interface a relatively clean experience compared with many free mobile video editors.

Adobe is also building generative AI directly into Premiere mobile. Firefly-powered tools include Generative Fill, Image-to-Video and Generate Sound Effects, allowing creators to generate or modify assets as part of their editing workflow. Those generative features are tied to Firefly generative credits rather than being part of the completely free core editing experience.

More features are already on the way

Adobe isn’t treating the Android launch as the finished version of Premiere mobile. The company says additional capabilities are coming, including Adobe Fonts, enhanced captions, keyframes, cropping and beat detection.

Perhaps more importantly for people who also use Premiere on a computer, Adobe is working on continued editing between mobile and Premiere on desktop. That feature isn’t available yet, but it could make the mobile app considerably more useful for creators who want to start an edit on their phone and finish it on a larger screen.

The Android launch also comes at an interesting time for Adobe’s mobile editing strategy. Premiere Rush, the company’s older mobile-oriented editing application, is scheduled to reach the end of its support period on September 30. The newer Premiere mobile app is effectively positioned as the more capable successor for creators who want a dedicated Premiere experience on their phones.

What you need to run Premiere on Android

Adobe Premiere is available now through the Google Play Store. The app requires Android 13 or later and a device with at least 5GB of RAM.

Adobe has also designed the Android experience to adapt to different device types, rather than limiting the interface to conventional candy-bar smartphones. That is particularly relevant as Android manufacturers continue to expand their foldable lineups and larger-screen devices.

The basic app is free to download and use. Adobe’s FAQ says users don’t need an Adobe account to edit, save projects locally or export videos, although signing in is required for certain assets such as free Stock music and for generative AI features. Additional storage and Firefly generative credits are available through paid options.

That combination makes Premiere an unusually accessible entry point into Adobe’s video-editing ecosystem. You can start with the core tools without committing to a Creative Cloud subscription, while more advanced AI capabilities and storage remain available as optional upgrades.

For Android creators who have been waiting for a more professional mobile editing workflow from Adobe, the wait is finally over. Premiere is now available on Android, bringing multi-track editing, 4K exports, enhanced audio, templates, effects and AI-powered creative tools to a much broader audience.
