Google is giving its AI-powered meeting notes in Google Meet a much-needed shortcut. The company is rolling out “Quick notes,” a new high-level summary designed to pull out the most important points from a meeting without making you work through the full set of notes.

The idea is pretty straightforward: not everyone needs every detail from a meeting. Sometimes you just need to know what was decided, what needs to happen next, and whether there was anything important enough to follow up on.

Google says Quick notes is designed around that use case. The new summary focuses on the main action items, outcomes, and talking points from a meeting, with the content limited to a single page. The company describes it as being particularly useful for executives and people who were not deeply involved in the discussion but still need to understand the key takeaways quickly.

The bigger change is where Google is putting it. Quick notes is now the default tab in the “Take notes for me” document created after a Meet call. The previous, more detailed meeting record hasn’t disappeared, though. It has been moved into a separate “Full notes” tab for anyone who needs the complete context.

That gives Meet’s AI notes a more practical two-layer approach. You can open the generated document and get the executive-summary version immediately, then jump into Full notes if you need to see the deeper details from the conversation.

Google is also bringing the same idea to email. When Take notes for me sends a meeting-notes email, Quick notes will now appear as the default summary there as well. That means someone checking their inbox on a phone or while rushing between meetings can get the important information without opening the full notes document first.

It is a small change, but it addresses one of the less glamorous problems with AI meeting assistants: generating a summary is easy enough, but figuring out which version people actually need can be harder. A detailed AI-generated record can be useful for the people who attended a meeting, while everyone else may simply want the three or four things that actually matter.

Quick notes is available now for supported Google Meet plans, including Business Standard and Plus, Enterprise Standard and Plus, Frontline Plus, Google AI Pro for Education, and consumer Google AI Pro and Ultra plans. Google says there is no separate admin or end-user setting for Quick notes; it is part of the existing Take notes for me experience.

For Google Meet users who already rely on Gemini to document meetings, the change should make the generated notes considerably easier to scan. And if the short version leaves out something important, the full meeting record is still only a click away.
