Acer has officially entered Google’s new Googlebook era with the Acer Googlebook 14, a premium convertible laptop designed from the ground up for Gemini Intelligence.

The Googlebook 14 is Acer’s first laptop in Google’s new category, which brings together Googlebook OS, Gemini-powered features, Android integration and premium laptop hardware. Acer is also positioning it as the industry’s first convertible Googlebook, with a 360-degree hinge that lets the machine switch between laptop, tent, stand and tablet modes.

The new laptop arrives as part of the first generation of Googlebook devices, alongside models from ASUS and Lenovo using Intel’s new Core Ultra Series 3 processors. Intel says these machines combine its latest mobile platform with Google’s software and Gemini Intelligence experience.

A 3K OLED convertible with a very laptop-like attitude

Acer clearly wants the Googlebook 14 to feel more like a premium Windows laptop than the traditional image of an inexpensive Chromebook.

The machine has a 14-inch 2880 × 1800 OLED touchscreen with a 16:10 aspect ratio, 500 nits of brightness, 100% DCI-P3 coverage and VESA DisplayHDR True Black certification. The panel is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass and supports USI 2.0 styluses, although the stylus is sold separately.

The display also plays into one of Googlebook’s more unusual AI features. Acer says users can activate Magic Pointer with a simple cursor wiggle, allowing Gemini to understand and act on things selected on the screen.

The hardware itself is wrapped in an aluminum-magnesium chassis finished in Elemental Blue. Acer has added its Comfort Touch treatment to parts of the chassis, while the lid gets an illuminated Glowbar that changes its colors and patterns to indicate things such as battery and charging status.

Despite the convertible design, the Googlebook 14 measures just 13.9mm thick and weighs 1.14kg, or about 2.51 pounds. Its 360-degree hinges support clamshell, tent, stand and tablet configurations. Acer says the hinges are designed to withstand 20,000 open-and-close cycles and the laptop carries MIL-STD 810H certification.

That combination makes this a surprisingly portable machine for a 14-inch 2-in-1.

Intel Core Ultra Series 3 brings the AI hardware

Under the hood, Acer offers the Googlebook 14 with Intel Core Ultra Series 3 processors, including configurations with up to a Core Ultra 7 355.

The processor includes a dedicated NPU capable of up to 50 TOPS, giving the laptop dedicated hardware for AI workloads alongside the CPU and GPU. Acer says the system can be configured with up to 32GB of LPDDR5X memory and up to 512GB of PCIe Gen 4 NVMe storage.

Intel describes Core Ultra Series 3 as its latest mobile platform, combining CPU, GPU and NPU architectures and built on Intel’s 18A process technology. Googlebook models using the platform also get features such as Intel Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0 and Thunderbolt connectivity.

The configuration already listed by Best Buy pairs the Googlebook 14 with a Core Ultra 5 Series 3 processor, 16GB of memory and 512GB of storage. That configuration is listed at $899 and has a 3K OLED 120Hz touchscreen.

Battery life is another major part of Acer’s pitch. The 71Wh battery is rated for up to 16 hours of web browsing or up to 14 hours of local video playback, with fast charging capable of reaching 80% in an hour. As always, actual battery life will depend on workload and configuration.

Gemini is supposed to be the point

The Googlebook 14 isn’t simply a new laptop with a faster processor. Google and Acer are building the experience around Gemini Intelligence.

One of the more interesting features is Continue On. Start something on a compatible Android phone and the task can be continued on the Googlebook 14. Cast My Apps takes the Android connection further by allowing supported phone apps to be accessed from the laptop without installing them on the Googlebook. These features require a compatible Android device running Android 17 or later.

Acer also highlights proactive suggestions that can use what’s happening on screen to provide context-aware actions. Magic Pointer is another part of that experience, letting users point at something on the display and ask Gemini to work with it.

There’s also a more practical feature for people who spend half their lives talking instead of typing: Acer’s Googlebook listing describes a dictation feature designed to clean up filler words and correct spoken changes while you’re talking. It can also handle language switching in supported situations.

And yes, Google Play is part of the equation too. Acer says the Googlebook 14 provides access to millions of apps through Google Play, while Googlebook’s broader platform is designed to bring Android and desktop computing closer together.

Plenty of connectivity for a thin laptop

Acer hasn’t gone too minimalist with the ports.

The Googlebook 14 includes one Thunderbolt 4 Type-C port, two USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C ports with DisplayPort and Power Delivery support, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. Wireless connectivity includes Intel Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6.0.

There’s also a 5MP webcam with noise reduction, a physical privacy shutter and a triple-microphone array. A fingerprint reader is built into the power button, while Google’s Titan C security chip adds another layer of device security.

For audio, Acer uses DTS-tuned sound with two upward-facing Ultra Boost Stereo speakers.

Acer is also putting some emphasis on sustainability. The Googlebook 14 uses 49% circular materials, comes with 99% plastic-free packaging and carries EPEAT and Energy Star certifications.

Acer Googlebook 14 price and availability

The Acer Googlebook 14 will arrive in North America in October 2026 with a starting price of $899 as a limited-time launch offer. Acer says the laptop will also launch in EMEA starting at €1,199 in October, while Australia gets it in November starting at A$2,599. Pricing and configurations vary by region.

The specific Best Buy configuration with an Intel Core Ultra 5 Series 3 processor, 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage is listed at $899, with a release date of October 4, 2026.

Acer is also bundling 12 months of Google AI Pro with the Googlebook 14 for eligible buyers. The package includes expanded access to Gemini and other Google AI features, Gemini in Google apps, and 5TB of cloud storage.

That makes the Acer Googlebook 14 an interesting early example of what Google is trying to do with this new laptop category. It isn’t simply taking the Chromebook formula and adding a chatbot. Acer’s machine combines a high-resolution OLED touchscreen, a convertible chassis, Intel’s latest AI-focused silicon, Android integration and Gemini-powered features into a laptop that is clearly aiming at the premium end of the market.

And at $899, Googlebook is stepping into a very different laptop conversation than the budget Chromebook market it grew out of.
