Googlebook has officially entered the next stage of its very Google-y laptop journey: pre-orders are now open.
Google announced that its new Googlebook laptops are available to pre-order through the Google Store, Best Buy, and select retailers, with pricing starting at $899. The first devices are scheduled to arrive on October 4, bringing Google’s new laptop category to store shelves.
And yes, Google is really calling it Googlebook. After years of Chromebook, the company apparently looked at the naming department and said, “You know what? Let’s just put Google in front of it.”
The new machines are positioned as premium laptops built around Google’s Android ecosystem. They use a shared Android foundation and are designed to work closely with Android phones, including features for continuing tasks, accessing phone files, and casting phone apps onto the laptop.
Googlebook laptops will come from Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, and Lenovo, with configurations featuring aluminum, magnesium alloy, or carbon fiber, displays reaching up to 2.8K OLED, haptic glass trackpads, and processors from Intel and Qualcomm. Google says the machines can deliver up to 14 hours of battery life and include dedicated NPUs capable of more than 45 TOPS.
Then there’s the AI stuff. Googlebook comes with Gemini-focused features such as Magic Pointer, Rambler for turning spoken thoughts into organized writing, and Create My Widget, which can generate custom desktop widgets from natural-language descriptions.
Every Googlebook also includes 12 months of Google AI Pro, 5TB of cloud storage, three months of YouTube Premium, and additional software perks. Google says the operating system will receive regular feature drops and updates for up to 10 years.
But let’s get back to the $899 starting price.
