DJI has brought its latest 360-degree camera to the world stage at IFA 2026, officially launching the Osmo 360 II with a familiar promise but considerably more ambitious hardware and software underneath: capture everything around you in high detail, then decide what the shot should look like later.
The Osmo 360 II made its global offline debut at IFA in Berlin on September 4, following DJI’s announcement that the camera would be one of its major attractions at the show. IFA 2026 runs from September 4 through September 8, with DJI showing the camera at its booth in Hall 20.
At first glance, the Osmo 360 II might not look like the kind of sequel that demands attention. DJI hasn’t radically changed the compact 360-camera formula. Instead, it has concentrated on the things that determine whether a 360 camera is genuinely useful outside a controlled shooting environment: resolution, dynamic range, night performance, lens durability, battery life and how quickly you can turn all that footage into something worth sharing.
And the headline specification is certainly hard to ignore. The Osmo 360 II can record native 8K video at 60 frames per second in 360 degrees, making it DJI’s most capable panoramic camera yet. DJI says its new camera is the industry’s first to combine a 1-inch-class square HDR sensor design with 8K/60fps 360-degree recording.
The square sensor is actually one of the more interesting changes here.
Traditional rectangular sensors aren’t an especially efficient fit inside a 360-degree camera because the two lenses need to capture opposing hemispheres. DJI’s square HDR imaging sensor is designed around that problem, allowing more of the sensor area to be used for the panoramic image. DJI claims this increases sensor utilization by 25 percent while also reducing power consumption.
The camera uses dual 1/1.1-inch square CMOS sensors and pushes the claimed dynamic range to 14.5 stops, up from 13.5 stops on the original Osmo 360. That extra range should be particularly useful in scenes where bright skies and darker foregrounds appear together — exactly the sort of lighting situation that tends to expose the weaknesses of small action cameras.
Then there’s the low-light problem.
360 cameras have traditionally been more challenging to use after sunset because the camera has to stitch footage from multiple lenses while dealing with relatively small imaging hardware. DJI is addressing that with its AI SuperNight 2.0 processing system, which combines an f/1.9 aperture with a new AI noise-reduction algorithm. DJI says the system is designed to produce brighter, cleaner footage while preserving details in both highlights and shadows.
That could make a surprisingly big difference in the real world. A 360 camera is often at its most interesting when you’re moving through a scene rather than standing in front of a tripod, and nighttime rides, city walks and other low-light situations are exactly where having a camera that can simply keep recording becomes valuable.
For action shooters, DJI is also leaning heavily into speed. The Osmo 360 II’s 8K/60fps mode is designed to preserve more detail during fast movement, while its large 2.4-micron pixels and dedicated processing hardware are intended to reduce motion blur. The camera can also shoot 8K/120fps in its Vortex mode, while DJI Studio can use AI frame interpolation to produce up to 64x slow motion, equivalent to cropped 8K/480fps footage.
The camera isn’t limited to video, either. DJI says it can capture 120-megapixel HDR 360-degree photographs and 16K 360-degree timelapses. Every video format now supports 10-bit color, while D-Log M is available for creators who want more flexibility during color grading.
That last part matters more than it might sound. 360 cameras have increasingly moved beyond the novelty of simply recording a spherical image. The real attraction is that you can capture the entire scene first and decide later where the viewer should look. More dynamic range and 10-bit recording give editors considerably more room to manipulate those shots without quickly running into ugly gradients, clipped highlights or crushed shadows.
DJI is also making a notable change to the camera’s physical durability. Both lenses use an ultra-hard optical film and, more importantly, can now be replaced by the user. That’s a big deal for a camera whose lenses are exposed on both sides of its body. Scratching a conventional action-camera lens is annoying; scratching one of the two exposed lenses on a 360 camera can effectively ruin the entire shooting experience.
The replaceable design means a damaged lens doesn’t necessarily turn into a trip back to DJI for service. DJI specifically positions the Osmo 360 II as something creators can use more fearlessly in demanding environments.
The camera is also waterproof to 10 meters without an additional case and can reach 50 meters with DJI’s Invisible Waterproof Case. It is rated for operation down to -20 degrees Celsius, making it suitable for everything from diving to skiing.
And DJI clearly has motorcycles and cycling in mind. The company highlights gesture and voice controls that allow riders to start recording without taking their hands off the controls, while stabilization is designed to keep footage smooth over rough terrain. A Sports Dashboard overlay can also add cycling data to recordings.
The Osmo 360 II weighs 183 grams and includes 105GB of built-in storage. That built-in storage is particularly useful for people who don’t want to discover halfway through a trip that they forgot a microSD card. DJI rates the battery for up to 100 minutes of continuous 8K/30fps recording, while fast charging can take it to 80 percent in about 22 minutes. Adding DJI’s Battery Extension Rod can provide up to another 180 minutes of runtime.
DJI hasn’t ignored the less glamorous part of 360-camera ownership either: getting footage off the camera and actually doing something with it.
The Osmo 360 II adds NFC connectivity for quick pairing with the DJI Mimo app. A tap can connect the camera, transfer footage or take the user directly into the editing workflow. DJI has also introduced Spotlight Follow, which can automatically keep a subject centered even as the camera rotates, reducing the amount of reframing work that would otherwise have to happen after recording.
For more serious editors, DJI says footage exported from DJI Studio can be imported directly into DaVinci Resolve through a dedicated plugin. That’s an important move as DJI tries to position the Osmo 360 II as more than a social-media camera. The hardware is increasingly capable of fitting into a professional workflow, even if casual users can still point, shoot and let the software do most of the work.
Audio has received attention as well. The Osmo 360 II has a four-microphone array and wind-noise reduction, while DJI’s OsmoAudio Direct Microphone Connection allows it to connect directly with several DJI microphone systems, including the newer DJI Mic 3 and Mic Mini 2S.
The mounting system has been updated too. DJI’s dual-direction quick-release design allows the camera to be magnetically attached from either side, while a standard 1/4-inch thread keeps it compatible with conventional camera equipment and the broader Osmo accessory ecosystem. That flexibility is important because the appeal of a 360 camera is often tied to where you can physically put it.
And that’s really where the Osmo 360 II makes the most sense.
You can put it on a motorcycle, throw it onto a selfie stick, take it skiing, carry it underwater or mount it to a bicycle. The invisible selfie-stick effect can then make the camera appear to float behind or beside the user, creating the kind of third-person perspective that would normally require another person, a drone or a complicated camera rig.
DJI is essentially selling the Osmo 360 II as a tiny camera crew that you carry around yourself.
The pricing reflects its position as a premium 360 camera. DJI’s official stores list the Osmo 360 II Standard Combo at around $560 in several international markets, although pricing and availability vary by region. The package includes the camera, protective pouch, silicone lens cap, USB-C PD cable and the 2,150mAh Osmo Extreme Battery Plus.
In China, the Standard Combo is listed at ¥3,299, while DJI’s European stores show pricing around €589–€609 depending on the market.
That puts the Osmo 360 II firmly into premium territory, but it isn’t simply charging for a higher resolution number. DJI has upgraded several of the less obvious pieces that determine whether a 360 camera survives actual use: replaceable lenses, improved low-light processing, higher dynamic range, faster charging, built-in storage and easier editing.
It also gives DJI a stronger answer to the growing competition in the 360-camera market. The company already made a serious entrance with the original Osmo 360, and the second generation looks less like an experimental follow-up and more like DJI deciding that 360-degree cameras deserve the same level of engineering attention it gives its drones and conventional action cameras.
That’s probably the more important story coming out of IFA 2026.
The Osmo 360 II isn’t trying to convince people that 360-degree video is a neat party trick. It’s trying to make the format practical enough that you can take one camera on an adventure, record everything, and worry about the composition later.
For travelers, action-sports creators and anyone who hates missing the shot because the camera was pointed in the wrong direction, that’s a pretty compelling proposition.
