Sonos is expanding its premium audio lineup with two new products aimed at different corners of the home: the Beam Ultra soundbar for TV and movies, and the Sonos Ace Ultra headphones for more personal listening. Both arrive alongside Sonos 27, a new version of the company’s audio software platform, and together they show where Sonos sees its next opportunity: making speakers, soundbars, and headphones feel like parts of one system rather than separate gadgets.
The new products are the Sonos Beam Ultra, priced at $699, and the Sonos Ace Ultra, priced at $449. Preorders opened September 1, with general availability scheduled for September 29 through Sonos and select retail partners.
For Sonos, this is more than a routine product refresh. The company has spent years building an ecosystem around the idea that sound should move naturally around the home, whether that means music following someone from room to room or a TV setup that can grow one piece at a time. The Beam Ultra and Ace Ultra push that concept in two useful directions: better immersive home theater audio on one side, and a more seamless handoff to headphones on the other.
The Beam Ultra takes over as Sonos’ new mid-size soundbar, keeping the compact footprint that made the Beam popular while giving it substantially more acoustic firepower. It packs nine custom drivers, including two upward-firing drivers designed to create a true 7.1.2 Dolby Atmos setup. In plain English, that means the soundbar is intended to do a more convincing job placing sounds above and around the viewer, not simply spreading audio wider across the front of the room.

That matters because the appeal of a soundbar has always been simplicity. Plenty of people want clearer dialogue, richer bass, and a more cinematic sense of scale, but they do not necessarily want to install a receiver, run speaker wire around the room, or find space for a traditional surround-sound system. Sonos is trying to make the Beam Ultra the kind of product that can sit below a TV on day one and then become the center of a bigger setup later, with a Sub and rear speakers added when the budget or living-room layout allows.
Dialogue clarity is also getting particular attention. Sonos says the Beam Ultra uses a redesigned center channel and includes four levels of AI Speech Enhancement, giving listeners more control when a movie mix buries the conversation beneath music, effects, or a booming soundtrack. There is also Night Sound for late-night viewing, which is designed to reduce the jump between quiet dialogue and sudden action scenes.
Those are not glamorous features, but they may be some of the most practical. Streaming shows have increasingly cinematic mixes, which can be great in an ideal home theater but frustrating in an apartment or a busy household. A soundbar that can make dialogue easier to hear without forcing viewers to constantly reach for the remote solves a very real everyday annoyance.
The Sonos Ace Ultra, meanwhile, is positioned as the company’s newest premium over-ear headphone. It uses a Sonos-designed 40mm driver, adaptive active noise cancellation supported by 10 microphones, and a claimed battery life of up to 35 hours with ANC enabled. The specifications put it firmly in the high-end headphone category, where buyers expect comfort, noise cancellation, long battery life, and sound quality that works just as well for a long flight as it does for a late-night listening session at home.

What makes the Ace Ultra more interesting than a standard wireless headphone upgrade is how deeply Sonos wants it tied into the rest of its hardware. It is the first Sonos headphone built on what the company calls Headphone Engine 2, new hardware that enables a direct connection to the Sonos system. The feature is launching in Early Access, but the basic pitch is easy to understand: press a button to move whatever is playing on Sonos speakers to the headphones, then press again to send it back. Sonos says this can work without requiring a phone to be nearby.
That handoff feature gets at a familiar real-world scenario. Maybe a movie is playing through the soundbar, but someone else is heading to bed. Maybe a playlist is filling the kitchen and living room, but it is time to leave the house. In both situations, Sonos wants the headphones to feel less like a separate Bluetooth accessory and more like a portable extension of the same audio setup.
The Ace Ultra also supports TrueCinema when pulling audio from a compatible Sonos soundbar. Similar in spirit to Sonos’ Trueplay room-tuning technology for speakers, TrueCinema is meant to tailor the headphone experience around the home-theater setup rather than simply delivering a generic stereo feed. The Beam Ultra itself supports Trueplay for room calibration, which can help adapt the soundbar’s output to the acoustics of the space where it is placed.
Connectivity is another part of the story. The Beam Ultra supports Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and HDMI eARC, covering the core needs of TV and music listening. The Ace Ultra adds USB-C and a 3.5mm input alongside its wireless capabilities, a welcome inclusion for travelers and anyone who still wants a wired option for in-flight entertainment systems, gaming gear, or older audio devices.
There is a clear strategy underneath all of this. Sonos is not merely asking customers to choose between a soundbar and headphones. It is asking them to see more value in owning both, along with the speakers they may already have. The company says its platform works with more than 100 streaming services and notes that its products are now used in more than 17 million households across over 60 countries.
That ecosystem argument has long been Sonos’ advantage, even as it faces crowded markets in both categories. The premium soundbar field includes strong options from Bose, Samsung, Sony, and Sennheiser, while premium noise-canceling headphones have long been dominated by familiar names such as Apple, Bose, Sony, and Sennheiser. Sonos’ way through that competition is less about offering a single standout spec and more about creating experiences that become better when several Sonos devices are used together.
The Beam Ultra and Sonos Ace Ultra will ultimately be judged on sound quality, comfort, reliability, and how smoothly these new software-driven features work outside of a launch presentation. But the idea behind them is compelling. A sound system should not feel trapped in one room, and headphones should not have to become a disconnected island the moment someone wants to listen privately.
With the Beam Ultra and Ace Ultra, Sonos is making a straightforward promise: start with the device that fits your life now, then let the rest of the system grow around it.
