Apple TV just dropped the trailer for season five of “Stillwater,” and honestly, if you’ve got a household with young kids who are perpetually one melted crayon or lost stuffed animal away from a full meltdown, this is the kind of quiet-but-mighty show worth carving out fifteen minutes for.

Apple confirmed on August 12 that the animated series is coming back with five new episodes on Friday, August 21, 2026. It’s not a flashy sci-fi reboot or a splashy celebrity-stacked drama – it’s a gentle little kids’ show about a panda, and that’s kind of the point. “Stillwater” has already picked up both a Peabody Award and a Daytime Emmy, so this isn’t some random streaming filler; it’s a legitimately decorated show that just keeps quietly doing its thing season after season.

For anyone unfamiliar, the series is based on the bestselling “Zen” book series by Jon J Muth, published through Scholastic, and it follows three siblings – Karl, Addy, and Michael – who live next door to a wise, unflappable panda named Stillwater. Through everyday hiccups (the kind of stuff that feels world-ending when you’re seven but is basically nothing in hindsight), Stillwater helps the kids work through their feelings using mindfulness, breathing exercises, and a lot of patient, gentle humor. Voice work comes from Judah Mackey, Eva Ariel Binder, and Tucker Chandler as the siblings, with James Sie voicing Stillwater himself.

What’s interesting is that “Stillwater” isn’t just another cute animated series thrown at the wall to see what sticks – it was actually produced through Apple TV’s “changemakers” initiative, working alongside Mallika Chopra, an author and mindfulness expert known for her “Just Be” kids’ book series. That partnership shows up in the DNA of the show: it’s less about jokes-per-minute and more about giving kids (and honestly, plenty of stressed-out parents watching alongside them) actual tools for handling big emotions. Gaumont and Scholastic Entertainment are behind the production, with a team of experienced executive producers including Sidonie Dumas, Nicolas Atlan, and Iole Lucchese steering things.

The first four seasons are already streaming on Apple TV, so if season five is your entry point, you’re not walking into anything confusing – it’s very much a show you can pick up mid-stream.

This trailer drop isn’t happening in isolation. Apple has been quietly building out a genuinely stacked lineup of kids and family content lately, and “Stillwater” fits right into that pattern. The same announcement name-drops a pretty long list of companions in that category – “My Brother the Minotaur” from Cartoon Saloon, “Wonder Pets: In the City” from Nickelodeon Animation, the “WondLa” trilogy, “Yo Gabba GabbaLand!“, season two of “Shape Island,” “The Sisters Grimm,” and DreamWorks Animation’s “BE@RBRICK,” among others. It’s a reminder that Apple TV, despite being best known in tech circles for prestige dramas like “Severance” or awards magnets like “Ted Lasso” and “The Studio,” has actually built a fairly deep bench of family-friendly programming that doesn’t always get the same headline treatment.

Zooming out even further, Apple TV has racked up an eye-popping 859 wins and 3,816 award nominations since launching back in November 2019, when it became the first all-original streaming service to roll out globally on day one. That’s the context “Stillwater” sits inside – a service that’s poured real resources into prestige TV, but hasn’t neglected the quieter, values-driven stuff either.

If you want to actually watch, Apple TV runs $12.99 a month with a seven-day free trial for new subscribers, and it’s accessible across basically every screen you own – iPhone, iPad, smart TVs, gaming consoles, you name it. Season five lands August 21, so there’s a little over a week to catch up on the first four seasons before the new episodes drop.
