Leagues Cup 2026 kicks off on Apple TV

Select games also air on Univision and FS1, but Apple TV remains the only place to stream every match live with replays and multi-view.

Tomorrow, August 4, the 2026 Leagues Cup kicks off with a slate of cross-border clashes that once again put MLS and Liga MX clubs on a collision course—and yes, every single match is streaming live on Apple TV.

The opening night sets the tone for Phase One, a nine-day sprint of 54 MLS-versus-Liga MX matchups that runs through August 13. On August 4, you’ll get a pair of headline games: Atlas vs. Real Salt Lake at 4:45 pm ET, followed by a marquee matchup at 7:00 pm ET with Cincinnati hosting Pachuca at TQL Stadium. Later that evening, Tigres takes on Salt Lake in another key fixture, giving fans a taste of the tournament’s best rivalry energy right out of the gate.

All of it is available in the Apple TV app across iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple TV, and most smart TVs and streaming devices, with no cable login required. If you’re on Android, you can still watch in a browser at tv.apple.com.

The format

Leagues Cup 2026 keeps the split-table structure that worked well last year: an MLS table and a Liga MX table, both fed entirely by cross-league results in Phase One. Every team plays three matches against opponents from the other league, earning points toward its own table.

Here’s the scoring twist that matters: regulation wins are worth three points, but if a match ends level after 90 minutes, it goes straight to penalties. The shootout winner gets two points; the loser gets one. That “no draws” rule keeps the standings tight and the stakes high from match one.

After Phase One, the top four clubs from each league table advance to a fixed knockout bracket starting with quarterfinals on August 25. The bracket is cross-league by design: MLS 1 vs. Liga MX 4, MLS 2 vs. Liga MX 3, and so on, so same-league teams can’t meet until the semifinals. Knockout games that end level after regulation also skip extra time and go directly to penalties, which keeps the schedule clean and the drama concentrated.

Why Apple TV is the entire story this year

This is the first Leagues Cup under Apple’s new, simplified streaming setup for MLS. Through the 2025 season, matches lived under “MLS Season Pass,” a separate $14.99/month add-on. Starting in 2026, the league moved all matches onto Apple’s flagship Apple TV service at $12.99/month, retiring Season Pass as a standalone product.

For fans, that means one subscription covers the whole ecosystem: regular MLS matches, Leagues Cup, and Apple’s broader sports and entertainment library. For Apple, it’s a strategic consolidation—putting soccer squarely inside its main streaming app rather than a niche pass. Industry reports indicate the current MLS-Apple deal is slated to run through this 2026 calendar season, with the league shifting to a new schedule format in 2027.

The stakes beyond the trophy

The Leagues Cup isn’t just a midsummer showcase. The 2026 third-place match and final determine three qualification spots for the 2027 Concacaf Champions Cup, the region’s premier club tournament. That elevates every phase of the bracket, especially for clubs that see the Champions Cup as a route to global visibility and the Club World Cup pipeline.

Last year’s edition offered a useful benchmark for what’s possible: Seattle Sounders won the 2025 Leagues Cup with a 3–0 final victory over Inter Miami in front of a sold-out Lumen Field, proving the tournament can deliver both sporting legitimacy and big-night atmosphere.

Who to watch as Phase One rolls out

If you’re scanning the early schedule for storylines, keep an eye on clubs that tend to treat Leagues Cup as a priority. Cincinnati, Tigres, América, and Cruz Azul are perennial contenders with deep squads built for quick turnarounds. On the MLS side, San Diego FC, Atlanta United, and Houston Dynamo have been flagged as teams to watch based on recent form and roster construction.

The cross-league matchups also create fun tactical contrasts: Liga MX’s technical midfields and high-pressing forwards against MLS sides that often lean on transition speed and set-piece sharpness. With three games per team in nine days, rotation and depth decide who survives Phase One and who fades.

How to actually watch

  • Every Leagues Cup match streams live on Apple TV; select games also air linearly on Univision and FS1 in the U.S.
  • Apple TV includes multi-view, replays, and on-demand archives so you can catch up if you miss kickoff.
  • The tournament runs August 4 through September 6, with knockout rounds from August 25 to September 6.

If you’re setting up for tomorrow’s doubleheader, the Apple TV app is the simplest path: open the app, find the MLS channel, and you’ll see the full Leagues Cup schedule with reminders and live buttons.
