Apple isn’t content relying on other companies for its hardware. We’ve seen this with the company’s transition from Intel processors to its own M-series chips for Macs. Now, Apple is reportedly working on creating its own Wi-Fi chips.
According to DigiTimes, Apple could start using its in-house Wi-Fi chips in the 2025 iPad models. This would be a significant step towards reducing the company’s dependence on Qualcomm and Broadcom, two major suppliers of wireless chips.
While the iPhone SE 4 might not get an Apple-made Wi-Fi chip, it could feature a new 5G chip designed by Apple. The company is reportedly aiming to introduce its 5G chip in the iPhone 17 models, but it might hold off to avoid overwhelming the market with too many new technologies at once.
However, there’s a potential roadblock. Apple is still working on integrating mmWave technology into its 5G chip. This technology is essential for achieving the highest possible 5G speeds, but it’s also more complex to implement. If Apple can’t overcome these challenges, it might still need to rely on Qualcomm for its 5G chips.
