If you’re a YouTube user who’s tired of those pesky ads interrupting your viewing sessions, but you’re not quite ready to commit to a full-fledged YouTube Premium subscription, Google might have a new option for you.
The tech giant has been quietly testing a new YouTube Premium Lite plan in a few select markets, including Australia, Germany, and Thailand. This plan, priced at 9.99 AUD per month in Australia, offers a “limited ads” experience on both YouTube and YouTube Kids.
Unlike the previous version of YouTube Premium Lite, which offered a completely ad-free experience, the new plan allows for some video ads, primarily on music content, Shorts, and during search and browsing. However, these ads are designed to be less intrusive than traditional YouTube ads.
It’s possible that Google is trying to cater to a specific segment of YouTube users who are willing to pay a premium for a less cluttered viewing experience, but aren’t interested in all the bells and whistles of a full YouTube Premium subscription.
By offering a more affordable option with limited ads, Google might be able to attract a wider range of users and increase its revenue.
While Google hasn’t confirmed any plans to expand the availability of YouTube Premium Lite, it’s certainly possible that the company will introduce it to more markets if it proves to be popular.
Whether or not the new YouTube Premium Lite plan is a good deal depends on your individual needs and preferences. If you’re primarily concerned with reducing the number of ads you see on YouTube, and you don’t need features like background playback or offline viewing, then it might be a worthwhile investment.
However, if you’re looking for a completely ad-free experience or if you value the other benefits of a full YouTube Premium subscription, then the Lite plan might not be the best option for you.
