YouTube Music, the popular music streaming service, is now available on Apple HomePod devices, thanks to a recent announcement from Google. This integration, which was originally teased at WWDC earlier this year, allows HomePod users to employ voice commands like “Hey Siri, play music” to initiate YouTube Music playback on their devices. This convenient feature eliminates the need to manually start the app on your phone and then utilize AirPlay for playback. However, there’s a catch: users must be subscribed to either YouTube Premium or YouTube Music Premium to enjoy this functionality.
To set up YouTube Music on your HomePod, you’ll need to follow these steps:
- Ensure you have the latest version of YouTube Music installed on your device, which you can find on the App Store.
- Open the app and tap on your profile image in the top-right corner.
- Navigate to Settings > Connected Apps and select “Connect with HomePod.” You’ll need to sign in with your Google Account to complete this step.
If you want to make YouTube Music your default music service on your HomePod, follow these instructions in the iOS Home app:
- Open the Home app and go to “Settings.”
- Tap on your username, then select “Default Service.”
- Choose “YouTube Music.”
By setting YouTube Music as your default service, you won’t have to append “on YouTube Music” to every Siri command you issue for music playback.

This latest addition of YouTube Music to the HomePod lineup brings it in line with other music streaming platforms like Deezer, Pandora, and Tidal, which already offer compatibility with Apple’s smart speaker.
