Great news for gamers! Meta has just announced an expansion of its existing partnership with Microsoft, which will now allow Xbox Cloud Gaming to be accessible on Meta’s fleet of Quest VR headsets. This means that players can now enjoy hundreds of popular Xbox titles through their virtual reality headsets.
The beta test launch introduces an Xbox app allowing Quest 2, Quest 3, and Quest Pro users to stream and play Xbox games without needing an Xbox console or PC. As long as you have an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription, the Xbox library comes to life in 3D virtual worlds right before your eyes.
To play, users simply need to pair an Xbox controller, DualSense controller, or other compatible gamepad with their Quest headset. After logging into their Microsoft account, the Xbox cloud gaming catalog opens up. Gamers can soon be racing vehicles in Forza Horizon 5 or exploring the cosmos in the highly anticipated Starfield — no TV or accessories are required beyond the Quest itself.
The wireless functionality and passthrough cameras on devices like the Quest 3 and Pro enable Xbox gaming in full stereoscopic color virtually anywhere. Meta recommends these newest headsets for the optimal Xbox gaming experience untethered.
The Xbox gaming app hints at deepening integration between Meta and Microsoft. Meta recently unveiled an AI image generator trained on billions of social media photos. Microsoft Teams is also coming soon to Quest in 3D for more immersive meetings. And Windows 365 will eventually land on VR headsets for blending work and play.
For those eager to jump into Xbox Cloud Gaming, the Meta Quest 3 starts at $499 for the 128GB model. Virtual worlds with triple-A gaming await — no console needed. This collaboration could make the Quest a must-have gadget for gamers who have always wanted to play Halo inside the Halo universe itself. Strapping on a headset may soon replace the traditional couch and controller.
