We’ve all been there: scrolling through Wikipedia at night, only to be blinded by that bright white screen. Well, fear no more, fellow knowledge seekers! After years of holding out, Wikipedia has finally joined the dark side and introduced a dark mode for its mobile website.
This is a big deal for anyone who loves to lose themselves in Wikipedia articles after the sun goes down (or, you know, just prefers a more eye-friendly reading experience). Dark mode makes everything easier on the eyeballs, especially in low-light situations. Plus, for those of us with phones that constantly seem to be on the verge of dying, dark mode can even help conserve some battery life.
So, how do you enable this magical night-time reading mode? It’s actually pretty easy. Just fire up the Wikipedia mobile website, tap the menu button (those three horizontal lines), and then choose “Settings.” Once you’re there, look for a section called “Color” or something similar. Just pick “Dark” as your theme, and voila! Instant darkness (in the best way possible).
Now, there is a bit of a heads-up. Wikipedia says this dark mode is still a work in progress. That means you might see some weird formatting or quirks here and there while you’re browsing. But hey, nothing’s perfect, right? And besides, the benefits of dark mode definitely outweigh any minor glitches.
Oh, and for all you desktop Wikipedia warriors out there, there’s a rumor floating around on Reddit that a desktop version of dark mode might be coming soon too! No official word yet, but hey, fingers crossed!
