We’ve all been there: a desk strewn with chunky laptop adapters, a tangle of cables feeding phones, tablets, and peripherals—and still not enough outlets. Enter Ugreen’s Nexode 500W Desktop GaN Charger, touted as the world’s first 500W GaN charger designed for desktop use. First unveiled at CES 2025, it’s now available for purchase in the U.S. at $249.99 via Amazon and Ugreen’s online store.

Gallium nitride (GaN) has been the buzzword in charging tech for several years—promising higher efficiency, smaller footprints, and better heat management compared to traditional silicon-based chargers. Ugreen, known for taking on industry heavyweight Anker with innovative docks, hubs, and chargers, leveraged GaN’s potential to push the envelope further. The Nexode series had already made waves with 100W–300W desktop chargers; the 500W variant was teased at CES 2025 as a “next frontier” in multi-device charging. Now that it’s shipping, we can see how that promise translates to real-world use.

At its core, the Nexode 500W sports six USB ports—five USB-C and one USB-A for backward compatibility. Ugreen claims one USB-C port can deliver up to 240W (enough to fast-charge a high-end 16-inch MacBook Pro to around 60% in 30 minutes) while the remaining ports share up to 260W among themselves. This means you could, in theory, charge a beefy gaming laptop at full tilt alongside multiple other laptops or a mix of phones, tablets, portable speakers, and accessories, all from one charger.

Under the hood are six integrated GaN chips delivering up to 95% energy conversion efficiency, minimizing wasted power and heat. Built-in multi-channel NTC sensors constantly monitor temperatures and throttle power as needed to prevent overheating, even under a sustained 500W load. This intelligent temperature control makes the bulky brick surprisingly manageable in terms of heat dissipation, crucial for setups like shared offices, design studios, or intense gaming rigs where devices draw high currents for extended periods.

Advanced safety features—over-current, over-voltage, over-temperature, short-circuit protection, and more—are integral. Ugreen’s spec sheet mentions up to 11 levels of protection to ensure both the charger and devices remain safe during prolonged or peak usage. For many buyers, this alleviates the worry of “what happens when everything’s plugged in and working hard at once?”

Who benefits most?

In modern work-from-home or hybrid setups, many juggle laptops, phones, tablets, wireless earbuds, and occasionally even peripherals like webcams or external drives that draw bus power. Instead of multiple power bricks, the Nexode can consolidate the desk ecosystem: one port handles the main laptop, another juicing a secondary device, while smaller gadgets sip power intelligently. Adaptive power distribution ensures high-wattage devices get priority without manual tinkering.

Photographers, videographers, and designers often have multiple devices charging simultaneously: high-end laptops, cameras or drones via USB-C, external SSDs, and smaller gear. A single 500W hub can clear desk clutter, letting creatives focus on workflow rather than outlet-hopping.

Gaming laptops and handheld consoles can be power-hungry, especially under load. With the Nexode, a flagship gaming laptop can sip 240W from one port while other devices—streaming gear, phones, controllers—draw from the remaining ports. The thermal intelligence ensures that even during marathon sessions, the charger won’t overheat or throttle unpredictably.

In tech-savvy homes or co-living spaces, multiple family members or roommates often need to charge laptops, phones, and tablets at once. A single, visible desktop charger is easier to manage than hunting down individual bricks scattered across outlets. Plus, the USB-A port covers legacy gadgets without extra adapters.

While Anker and others have also embraced GaN multiport chargers (e.g., Anker Prime 250W), the leap to 500W is significant. Anker’s latest offerings hover around 240W–300W total output, often with LCD displays or smart dials for port management, but less raw output capacity. The Ugreen Nexode’s unique selling point is sheer wattage in one desktop brick, aimed at users who truly need concurrent high-power delivery. That said, the Nexode’s size and weight make it decidedly non-portable; it’s a desk fixture rather than a travel companion. For on-the-go needs, smaller GaN chargers remain preferable.

Pricing & availability

U.S. pricing is set at $249.99, available now via Amazon and Ugreen’s website. At this price point, it’s a serious investment compared to lower-wattage chargers, but for target users juggling multiple power-hungry devices, the convenience and consolidation may justify the outlay. Ugreen occasionally runs promotions or bundle deals with compatible cables or accessories, so shoppers might keep an eye on limited-time discounts.
