Twitch is undergoing a significant transformation as it shifts its mobile app’s focus from a follower-centric experience to a content discovery platform. The platform is rolling out a major update this week, placing a TikTok-like feed front and center, a departure from its traditional “Following” tab.
The move comes after months of experimentation and testing, with Twitch CEO Dan Clancy outlining plans for a discovery-focused app earlier this year. The company acknowledges that over half of its users primarily engage with the platform on mobile devices, emphasizing the need for a more engaging and easily navigable experience to drive user retention.

The redesigned app will feature a prominent “Home” tab showcasing a personalized feed of recommended content, alongside a “Browse” tab for exploring different categories and channels. The “Following” tab remains accessible for users who prefer to prioritize their subscribed streamers.
Twitch’s decision to prioritize content discovery aligns with the growing influence of short-form video platforms like TikTok. By adopting a similar approach, the platform aims to attract new viewers while retaining its existing audience. However, this strategic shift presents a challenge in balancing the needs of both casual viewers and dedicated followers.
The success of this overhaul will depend on Twitch’s ability to effectively curate a feed that resonates with users and introduces them to new content without alienating its core fanbase.
