Microsoft is getting in on the see-through tech trend with a stylish update to its premium Xbox Elite 2 controller. The company recently launched its “Cipher Series” collection, adding translucent color options to its Xbox Design Lab, where you can customize your own controller. And yes, it’s as cool as it sounds.
Starting at $149.99, the new options let you build a controller that feels straight out of the ’90s tech boom with those retro see-through designs. While that price already sounds steep, expect to spend more if you go for the extra flair—because, of course, we all want those extras.
The Cipher Series introduces six translucent color options: Ghost Cipher (white), Velocity Cipher (green), Astral Cipher (purple), Surf Cipher (blue), Candy Cipher (pink), and Pulse Cipher (red). And if that’s not enough, you can even tweak the D-pads and paddles with Energy Chroma or Sunset Chroma color options, giving your controller a whole extra layer of personality.

But Microsoft didn’t stop there. Alongside the new Elite options, they’ve also dropped the Ghost Cipher edition of the standard Xbox Wireless Controller. This one ups the transparency game, showing off even more of the inner workings than the Elite controllers. Why, you ask? The Elite’s rubberized grips limit the transparency to the faceplate, whereas the standard version goes full-on translucent. It’s priced at $69.99 and is set to launch on October 8th, with preorders already live.
