TikTok has announced the launch of a group chat feature, allowing users to engage in direct messaging with up to 32 participants. This highly anticipated update marks a significant expansion of the platform’s social capabilities.
Users aged 16 and over can now initiate group chats directly within the TikTok app, eliminating the need for external messaging platforms. The feature is designed to facilitate seamless sharing and discussion of TikTok videos among friends and family.
To ensure user safety, TikTok has implemented age-based restrictions and controls for group chats. Users aged 13 to 15 cannot access the feature, while those aged 16-17 face limitations on group creation and membership.
In addition to group chats, TikTok is introducing custom stickers for direct messages, enhancing visual communication between users.
While the group chat feature is currently undergoing a phased rollout, its introduction underscores TikTok’s commitment to evolving its platform into a comprehensive social hub.
